A must have for the egg basket

Posted

Pros: Friendly, full of personality, beautiful

Our three Easter Eggers have more personality individually than the entire flock combined.  Sandy is always the first one to greet us, running from wherever she's working before the others even look up.  Chip chatters, tells you about her entire day and makes sure you are listening.  Honey believes she's perpetually broody but continues to go about her chicken business, crabby all the way.  If you sell eggs, they're invaluable in my opinion.  You can't get green and blue eggs at the grocery store.  That alone makes local eggs worth the extra money.   They're beautiful when combined with the brown eggs.  I love to see the customers' faces when...

EE's are the bEEs knEEs!

Posted

Pros: inquisitive, friendly, tame easily

Cons: none so far!

This is Goldilocks. Don't laugh. I have a three year old little girl. Every other chicken on the place is named 'Princess' including the roosters, except Fred and Ted which are girls. Now you can laugh.   I bought the EE's on an impulse buy at Orcheln's. They use Estes hatchery out of MO. Estes' website makes no claims of purity, it says that this is their own strain. All I can say is thank goodness my brooder filled up or I would have a lot more than 4 of these birds. They have been incredibly friendly since the day I brough them home. Their colors are coming out nicely and all are turning into beautiful birds. Would highly recommend them to others wanting a backyard...

Easter Eggers are a great addition to my flock

Posted

Pros: Beautiful, pretty eggs, friendly

Cons: Very timid with other birds

I have two Easter Eggers that are beautiful six month old pullets.  They lay very pretty blue/green eggs almost everyday. Even though they are different looking, they lay almost identical colored eggs.     They are very gentle and never cause trouble or pick on the other birds which unfortunately puts them at the bottom of the pecking order. They are very people friendly and are a lot of fun to watch.  When they free range they stay close to us and are always ready for a handout.  From the experience I have had with my EEs I would recommend them to anyone.   I want to add two things. Peanut Butter, the one in the bottom...

Dumb, even for a chicken.

Posted

Pros: Beautiful tail feathers, Friendly

Cons: Stupid

EE's are stupid, even according to chicken standards. We got 2 EE's and a silver laced wyandotte from the local feed and seed in March to add to our flock of 4 red stars. The Easter Eggers are by far the dumbest of the flock - there is a small pen for the pullets to run, with a small opening to the bigger run, and the wyandotte had no trouble figuring out how to get in and out of the pen, but the EE's cannot figure it out. We have pushed them through the opening multiple times, to no avail. They are also not very spacially aware - stepping into the water bowl, running into fences, etc.  They are pretty birds, and don't mind being handled, but they're so dumb it's almost...

Friendly and great layers

Posted

Pros: Egg color

Cons: not a true breed

My EEs are my favorite chickens. All 3 of my hens lay a colored egg- olive, blue/green, mint. They are the friendliest of all my birds, and even the EE rooster I have is more like a cat than a chicken- following me around always wanting to be petted. Each of them lay nearly every day, eggs ranging from jumbo to normal. I love that easter eggers come in so many colors so I can tell them all apart. My EEs are standard size chickens but they are on the smaller side so I think they have a good feed to lay ratio. This is the first breed I recommend to anyone looking to start a layer flock.

Easter Eggers

Posted

Pros: friendly, inquisitive, non-aggressive, not broody, big eggs, pretty and come in a wide variety of colors, small combs good for cold weather

Cons: none that I can think of

Easter eggers are great backyard pets and egg birds. They're easy going, friendly, and not flighty. Medium sized birds, easter eggers come in a wide variety of colors and patterns. Because they're mixed birds I find their personalities can vary as much as their appearances. Some of mine are very outgoing and some are more reserved. Most lay green or blue eggs, but occassionally one will lay brown or pinkish eggs. From my experience, easter egger roos can be friendly and non-aggressive towards hens and humans. My easter eggers are the first to hop up in my lap or on my shoulder when I bring out the treats. Every backyard should have a couple EE.

Easter Eggers

Pros: Sweet, curious, friendly, gorgeous eggs

Cons: Flighty

I have five.  Three are a bit flighty, but two are the friendliest and sweetest chickens around.  They come up to you in the pen and want you to hold them, cuddle them, and pet them.  They're very talkative and just fun to be around in general.   One of the five has just started laying again after a couple of months off.  The eggs are about the same size as a medium sized brown egg.   My husband has a few in our other flock, and they're the friendliest of the whole bunch (Leghorns, Black and Red Stars, EEs).   I will always have some in every flock of mine from now on; that's how much I enjoy them.

Pros: Cute, Docile, Friendly and Sweet!

Cons: None!

Wonderful personalities, beautiful plumage, beards and striking blue-green eggs, what more could you ask for?!  My EE hens are the sweetest, most well-behaved of my entire flock of 50+ chickens.  They are mellow and kind to their other chicken friends.  My roosters have personality plus, confident, proud and always have something to crow about!  Egg production has been great.  Winter is here and they are keeping up with my Golden Comet hens pretty well.  I am really impressed with the color and nice medium size of the eggs.  A definite must-have for any chicken fancier!           ...

Easter Eggers

Posted

Pros: Friendly, Plumage, Variety, Egg Color

Cons: Can't be shown

I only have one Easter Egger, but it is my intention over the next five years to obtain an entire Easter Egger flock. The personality of my bird is friendly and spunky. She is equal to, if not better than a silky when it comes to ease of handling, and human attachment. If you are looking for a pet quality bird, look no farther than the easter egger!

Pros: Friendly chatterbox that looked exotic when she was a chick. At two, she is laying jumbo/extra-large blue-green eggs almost every day.

Cons: None

Of all my hens, she is the friendliest, and loves it when I rub her back and neck, even in the nest box. Not easily excited. Highly recommend this breed to anyone.

I LOVE my EEs!

Posted

Pros: Awesome personalities, lay pretty eggs, entergetic, sweet, gentle

Cons: Can't be shown

EEs are awesome chickens. They are full of personality, sweet, gentle, loving, and entergetic birds. Also they lay beautiful eggs. All of my EEs are very sweet and kind. The only bad thing about them is they can't be shown, but isn't a big deal especially if you just want them for yout backyard flock.

AWESOME birds!!

Posted

Pros: Very energetic, full of personality

Cons: None!

I have to Easter Egger chicks that are one month now. They are AWESOME! I LOVE watching them mature! My one EE (Hazel) has a peach breast, black penciled back, and a black splotch on the top of her head with a white face. Pippy has bright orange hackle feathers, and the rest of her body is a chocolate with black penciling here and there. I love my EE's so much, and can't wait for them to lay!

Great backyard choice

Posted

Pros: Hardy

Cons: Can't tell what color they will lay until mature

Have 3 of these hens. One over 3 years old and still a very good layer. They tolerate desert heat and dryness. Very friendly toward other breeds.

Sweet birds, take a long time to come into lay

Posted

Pros: Pretty feathers; good temperments; pretty eggs

Cons: Take way longer than any other chickens to lay eggs

These birds are very sweet and beautiful. Our two hens, Sammy and Queen, have very good temperments and get alogn with everyone in the coop. However, at the age of about seven months, they still have yet to lay an eggs while our other two layed for the first time about a month ago. I would recommend these, but not unless the person asking about them already has a steady supply of eggs and is not, like we were, getting hens to replace a flock that was lost to predators. Other than that, though, they are beautiful girls!
