Hello all!
None of my chickens are laying and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas why or what I can do to get them laying.
I have four all together. One is old and I don't expect her to lay anymore. Two are over three years old and I thought maybe they should still be laying. One is...
Thank you. He is still young yet. I got him from a friend who had ordered them online. I'm not sure where she ordered them from but ordered all hens and ended up with two roosters. Of course of the two I bought from her I ended up with one of those roosters. He can not stay here. If...
So I got up this morning and let the chickens out like I normally do. Went back in to get my coffee and heard this funny noise coming from the chicken coop. I didn't think anything of it until I heard it a second and third time. So I decided to investigate. I went and opened up the chicken coop...
Hello everyone. One of my hens, about 3 years old, has been acting funny today. She was fine last night when she went to roost but didn't come out this morning. When I got home from work she was still on the roost! This is very unusual for her. I picked her up and set her out of the roost...
One of our 3 year old chickens has been acting strange today. She stayed on the roost all morning and didn't come out until I picked her up and put her out. I have observed her drinking water but she isn't really doing much else. We checked for a bound egg but didn't feel anything. One other...
Has anyone dealt with a prolapsed vent? One of our eldest hens has one. I did look it up on here and found soaking her in epsom salt and trying to push it back in was a common solution. I'm just wondering if it's worth it to try. She is old and hasn't laid a egg in almost a year. Our only...
Thanks for the tips! She seems to be getting better. I let her out today for about a half hour or so to stretch it out and she wasn't limping nearly as bad.
Thanks, She is in a crate now. I'll let her out in the morning to see how she is doing. She did finally get up and make it to the back corner of the yard before sitting down again. But I decided a couple days of rest can't hurt.
I can't tell if it's really dislocated. She can use it but hasn't really moved much. She is sitting in the coop. I'll isolate her and see how it goes. Thanks
Hello all.
I got up this morning and it looks like one of my girls dislocated her leg overnight. She is over 4 years old. Any advice, tips or anything I can do for her?
Thanks
We made the decision to cull her this morning. She is the RIR on the left. I couldn't let her suffer any longer. Thanks for all the help and suggestions everyone. She lived a good life pecking and free ranging with her sisters. Everyone else in the flock seems fine so I think it was just...
What do you mean by treats? We give them table scraps when we have them. We give them bird seed. Now that winter is approaching I will give the popcorn or warm oatmeal ever once in a while. Other suggestions?
Unfortunately we decided to cull her this morning. She hadn't ate or drank in 2 days. She is the one on the left (RIR). She had a good life running around and pecking with her sisters. Thanks everyone for the advice and help.
Thanks for your help everyone. I truly believe it is just her time. She is 4 years old and lived a good life. No other sickly girls in my flock so that is a positive.
Thanks. She is already isolated. No other sickly girls. I just recently heard about the egg bound thing and when I massaged her I couldn't feel anything. We considered culling her but it's my first to go. I know that is the right thing to do but I just can't. She is 4 years old and quit...
Thank you. It's been about 24 hours since I noticed this and I can verify that she is not eating or drinking. It's just so strange that she was out the day before free ranging with the rest of my girls.
