Aaaaaah! They're back 3 years later and this time hubby's done with chickens. Any easy way to deal with these? My organic way was not easy. I might even be willing to use something less safe and natural. I just want them gone and I just can't lose sleep because of these bites again. We have...
Okay, my chickens have been on the Cascade Layer by Magill Ranch for about 9 mos. now. They still aren't laying. I go check about every 5 days and might get 4 eggs out of 13 hens. It seems to be the same 2 hens laying. Most of the chickens were 2 yo in the spring . I didn't expect them to...
I thought we had enough and just found out we're OUT! We don't get our Azure order for another 10 days. Does anyone near Rosenberg, TX have extra. I'd rather not use what's at the feed store but I might have to. If anyone has organic and soy-free for layers I would love to buy some from you...
I've been using it for 3-4 months now and the chickens seem to like it. Some of our whole grains and legumes had been getting harder to get and I wasn't giving them what they really needed anymore. I feel much better knowing they're getting a balanced diet and we don't have to mix it! Yay...
Almost 2 years later and we're still BUG FREE! We're still putting food grade DE in the coops (have 2 now) and a tiny bit of cedar shavings. They still get garlic in their water. I still have a couple of light scars where those bugs bit me on my upper thighs! I'd do it without chemicals...
I have only one in the big coop. I've been meaning to get some more. In the mean time I'll try golf balls! It's just strange that mostly 2 yo chickens would suddenly start laying all over the coop.
Thanks!
Laura
We have 2 chicken tractors (3 bantam hens and a bantam rooster + 9 standard hens and a bantam rooster) and both groups of chickens have been laying in the coops but not in the boxes. I think they started this after we gave them new shavings (same brand) and took the old (3 mos ago). Also, one...
I got 2 bantam frizzled cochins, both when they were around 6 mo old. One is pure cochin and the other isn't. She doesn't have as much feathering on her feet. The pure cochin bit us once after we'd had her about 2-3 weeks. The other one is mean all the time. If we're not quick she'll bite...
I'm having a terrible time deciding if I should switch from Greener Pastures Farm's whole grain recipe to Cascade Layer by Magill Ranch. I can get it for $28 from Azure Standard and would be a lot cheaper than what we're paying for whole org. grains. It would also be nice not to have so many 5...
Thank you both! This should help. I just wish I had put the chicken in the fridge so we didn't have to wait for the next one that dies. I'm pretty sure my husband would not have let me!
We just lost our 6th chicken (about 1 per month, some sudden, one sick for 4 wks). I'd like to know where to get a necropsy before all of our favorite chickens are gone. We live near Houston. It needs to be really cheap!
Thanks,
Laura
No, I don't have an incubator. I tried to look at a few of them a week ago with a big flash light. I couldn't see anything and gave up. I put the eggs back under her today after I asked about them. They had been in the grass for about an hour. She was happy to snuggle up with them again...
Hello! Our D'Uccle has been sitting on 10 of her eggs and 2 of them hatched on Friday (day 21)! We've never done this before and we've only had chickens for a little over a year. Just now I took the other 8 out because I assumed they weren't going to hatch this late. One of them has...
Thanks. I didn't think of her having to "work things out" with the new ones. Gosh, if one of these new hens were broody I'd use her and it would be solved. I'm thinking I might have to pass on the cochins and get some later when I'm not trying to hatch. I really want to see some chicks...
Hi! I have 2-3 broody hens (BLRW, Australorp, and maybe a RIR) right now and I've been collecting eggs from the D'Uccle that I would like one of them to hatch.
~Is it okay that these eggs have been in a basket in the dining room starting 8 days ago (adding one almost every day)?

Too many Roosters!! We have one Barred Rock and one Blue Cochin. They are both almost a year old. They are FREE! They have to go now!
The Cochin is beautiful and calm and needs his own flock. He's never been agressive. I think even our bantam rooster bullies him, he's so sweet. He was bought...
This is a calm and beautiful rooster but we want hens! He's been raised on organic whole grains in a tractor by 6 kids who love him. If we had space we'd keep him! He is 9 months old. I cannot ship. He needs to go soon! I can't eat him!
I would also trade for a hen less than 1 year old...
