Anyone near Holly and can take a rooster? They have all found homes except for 1.

    white spots on comb

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I found this quite interesting. My EE also has similar spots on her comb and her eggs consistently have calcium bumps on them as well.

When to cull a rooster showing signs of aggression?

I meant what he is planning to do right now. He needs to build trust. Agreed there are so many roosters that need good homes because people cannot keep them. I understand my techniques are different than yours, but I agree the need to handle your hens whenever is vital to their health as well...

When to cull a rooster showing signs of aggression?

Just to let you know, my "aggressive" rooster does not attack me anymore since I have begun using these techniques. He also does not stalk/follow me when they do free range and works with me to "help" me gather the hens back to the run/coop. He now will allow me to pick up the hens and cuddle...

When to cull a rooster showing signs of aggression?

Picking up your hens in front of him will only tell him they need him to protect them from you. If you want to work with him, you need to build trust with him. Smacking him away is just going to show him you are a threat and he will come at you. Give him room and space. Move slowly while in...

When to cull a rooster showing signs of aggression?

My birds are all in a covered run because AI is bad here and I don't want to risk them getting sick. If they free range, they go out in the evening when I am supervising them. I know we disagree on this, Mary, but there are other solutions and people just don't know because the old-school ways...

Eagles are beautiful! We have a nest not too terribly far from us and occasionally we see them fly over the house. Poor Kady! I'm glad she and the eagle were both okay. My chickens do that cockeyed look-up thing, too. My roo alarms when the turkey vultures are around and I have to reassure them...

When to cull a rooster showing signs of aggression?

If you are open to a different perspective and learning more about rooster behavior, please check out the page Rooster Allies on FB. Roosters go through a spring hormone change and can get feisty. They pick up on your body language and can sense your tenseness, as many other animals do. It is...

Eaton and Ingham are very close! Lansing straddles both counties with Waverly Road being the dividing line. I used to work on Waverly and live west of there, all just within Eaton. I don't think she's very good at bird ID, but she sure is loud about it.

I was going to say, Delta Mills park is in Eaton County. MSU is in Ingham. @Dreamzchaser I would try the Dremel, too. De-spuring is kind of like declawing a cat, that is bone you are removing in the spur, not just a nail. Chickens don't show pain because they are probably the lowest prey...

Saw this post on our local Nextdoor page. I know it's a long shot but I figured I would post here. Hartford is on the west side of the state, about 30 minutes south of GR.

I'm so glad you are all safe and most of the damage fell in the woods. Crazy spring storms for sure!

@Dreamzchaser I agree with Troyer, this is what I have used. I stick a hunk of peanut butter in the middle and it works great! It's a live trap, so you'll have to deal with them after, but at least you won't have to run around collecting the poison. My dad once used poison to kill mice. Turns...

I hear you. The tornadoes started just east of us, here. I actually followed the big one in to Kalamazoo on Tuesday. I hope everyone is alright! It was wild. Lots of damage out there, best to you guys and rebuilding. We'll miss you, but that's more important.

@Dreamzchaser I'm so excited that the oregano you gave me last year has started to come up in my herb garden. I for sure thought I killed it last year when I got home.

Hiiiiiii everyone! I've been so super busy. My stepdaughter got married in Greece (Santorini) two weekends ago, so we had an unexpected 10 day trip to Greece. I got my first passport stamp. The wedding was beautiful, overlooking Santorini and the caldera (the sea where the volcano erupted). She...

I agree with @uchytil Everyone, please bring 1 item for raffling off! Nothing too expensive and please make it farm/chicken related. That's a great idea! I will bring music. Is anyone doing hotdogs or burgers? I can handle bringing buns, pickles, condiments for that. I haven't decided what I'll...
