    Rat Proof Feeder Recommendation?

So, a rat has been in my feeder for a few nights in a row. :( I stopped up any holes today, but I think it is time for a rat proof feeder before they get comfy. I have done some research, there are so many versions, but every time I find one in my budget, the reviews are not great. Stuck...

    Danish leghorns comb turning blue

I have noticed this before and again today. Both of my Danish leghorns have purple spots in their comb, it's as if one side of it is turning blue. They're acting normal, eating well, laying eggs. I'm going to attach some photos. Unfortunately, I am in a boot, and can't chase them right now ...

    Chicken laid red ball :(

One of my hens, I think it was my oldest (3 years old) laid this ball, it looks like it is filled with blood. I checked all their vents for blood, and they are all acting very normal, so I cannot tell who laid this today. Any ideas what it is?

    Chicks picking on Mama's eyes?

Our "surprise" chicks are now 3 days old, and and we are still waiting for the 3rd egg to hatch. The chicks seem to be doing fine, but I don't see them eating or drinking from the containers. They do pick (or at least it looks to me as if they are) on the Mama's eyes :( while she is sitting on...

Got eggs for broody hen, and they hatched the next day!

My hen, Rebel, began getting broody about 4 days ago. Yesterday, I went by a friends house and picked up some fertilized eggs another hen had been sitting on. My friend did not know how long her hen was already on them....I put them under Rebel last night, and this afternoon when I got home...

    Food not going down feeder

This may seem silly, but we put up a hanging feeder, and it seems the food does not "go down". The girls will eat what is in the rim, and then it seems the food gets stuck in the middle instead of flowing down to the rim. I hope that makes sense? When we got the hanging feeder, I also...

5 month old Buff, could it be a Roo???

I am hoping someone who has raised Buffs can give me piece of mind. I am posting a pic of Fluff, one of my new Buff chicks. 5 months old, and SHE (I hope) is sporting a big comb. She is bigger than my other one. She does not have tail feathers, or spurs to mention, but that comb! She has not...

2 older hens, 2 newer chicks. Choas in the coop

We have two hens, a Buff Orpington, and a SLW. They are about 1.5 years old. We got two more Buffs, who are almost 5 months. They are big now, so about 4 days ago we began to "integrate" them into the coop from the dog kennel that they were in. We extended the coop run before we introduced, so...

Again, our Buffs keep us on our toes

I saw a post somewhere where a Buff was being "for sure" sexed as a roo. It was very young, like my two. They are 1.5 months old. I thought this was too early, but now he has me looking at my girls with suspicion! Can anyone ease my mind?

    Hens or Roos???

Hello! We are so new to this, and received our chicks through our 4H project. It turns out that quite of few the chicks in our project are turning out to be roosters ...that would be a bummer for us, as we cannot keep roosters at all. I will post some pics, and hopefully some of you...

Son went to a poultry meeting and came home with chicks...:)...

Hello! I found BYC while searching for pics of pullets to compare (roo or hen??). We are brand new chicken owners. My 9yr old son joined a 4H poultry project so that he could learn more about chicks for our FUTURE chickens. Daddy went with him to the first meeting because I was working, and...
