Look at the rabbit hutch my hubby built

. I was so proud of him when he finished these in less than 2 weeks. We're still deciding if we're going to paint some of the exterior and we may have to make their sleeping area a little bigger. My son has Flemish Giants that he got for 4H to show at the fair. I couldn't resist adding pics of...

Anyone going to the twin tier poultry club show on September 13th? We are going to watch a relative who is showing his birds. Just wondering if anyone knew if there were usually a fair number of birds for sale at this or if we'd be able to get the names of some good breeders. Right now we are...

looking for welsummers in pa or nearby

My son just finished up his 1st county fair with chickens and he absolutely loved it. Now he (and I) have got the itch. He has taken a liking to Welsummers. The judge told them all that they need to make sure they are getting good quality chickens so we don't want to buy from a hatchery. I'm...

    what breed are these

I wasn't planning on having turkeys for the fair, but my son talked me into it. These two were born about April 4. Can someone please help me out and let me know what breed they are. I'm thinking that the tom is a bronze breasted and the hen is a narragansett. My other question (his 4H leader...

    Looking for naked necks

I'm looking for some naked neck chicks for my son to raise for 4H this year. I would prefer to have females, but we would be ok with one rooster too. He received a small incubator for Christmas, but we aren't quite brave enough to rely on it totally. They don't have be perfect, but I would like...

Help...my rabbit kicks all his bedding out

Our rabbit refuses to let us keep any kind of bedding in his pen. It has been near zero temps that last couple nights and we had put straw in his pen to help keep him warm. He kicked it all out. He does this with the shavings too. Any suggestions?

I don't think my roos know what to do

Look out...dumb question coming at you. I have a California White hen who has been laying for about 2 months. She used to be a free ranger, but after our other hen was hit by a car in November..we decided to put her in the portable pen that my husband built for the roosters until spring when we...

    confused rooster?

When I have gone out to collect eggs, I have found our Americauna Rooster sitting on them...is this common? This has happened several times. Will he hatch the eggs or was it a coincidence that he was sitting on them? Sorry, I don't know much about chickens yet..but I'm learning lots on here.

    white eggs

Our California White (at least thats what the feed store called her) started laying a couple days ago. I was under the impression that her eggs would be white. They are not really white. I can't decide if it has a slight brownish tint or if it's pink(i don't even know if that is possible) . I...

    looking for 4H advice

My son wants to do chickens for a 4 H project next year. Does anyone have any advice on a good breed for him to start with? We watched the poultry show at our county fair this week and the judge was very critical of 95% of the chickens. He kept saying " this is what happens when you buy from...

look out...another newbie question about soft eggs

I've been reading all the topics regarding soft eggs and i see that sometimes it's a calcium issue and sometimes other things. Here is my question. Our turken starting laying a week ago Friday. Yesterday, she laid her 4th and 5th eggs. One egg was a soft shell. I know that she laid them both...

    first egg

My son came running in the house to tell us that his turken, Tweeter, had finally laid her first egg. Since we're newbies to chickens, we were all pretty excited. This is the first time that any of us have ever had chickens.

I've been enjoying this forum since i got my babies at Easter...uh I mean my son got his babies Here are our turkens (they were both supposed to be hens, at least that's what they said at the feed store) They were the ugliest chickens that I'd ever seen when we got them, but now I love them and...

    adding a new chick

I have a California White chick who is approximately 10 weeks old. Can I add her in with the others (2 turkens, 1 silkie bantam, and 1 americauna bantam who were born right before Easter) or should I wait until she is bigger. I know that I probably need to watch her for awhile. She is currently...
