My husband is unemployed, so I'm selling Jamberry nail wraps to try to make ends meet. In addition to the catalogue and holiday wraps (which you can see at http://10pigs.mort.net ) I also have nail wraps that I've made myself. I thought some of the people here might be interested in the pattern...
I'm getting dog crates for my coturnix. I know they'll need some modifications to make functional, but am trying to do it as inexpensively as possible. Today I'm hitting the recycling center because I was told they have rolls of hardware cloth. I'll attach that to the sides and probably put a...
Is cat food always bad for quail? Or is it okay in small quantities, and if so, how do you define small? I ask because I'm clipping coupons and there are TONS of coupons for pet food which, when combined with sales, make it cheap or free.
Another q!!! I've been making bone broth for myself. This involves taking water, a splash of vinegar to help dissolve the calcium out of the bones and bones and cooking them until they're soft and have visible pitting. I can literally take some of these bones and mush them up. There's no...
What are some good, inexpensive protein boosts for coturnix? I was planning bsf but haven't had the money to get them started. Mealworms look easy but take a long time before you have enough to start feeding the birds.
http://www.thepoultrysite.com/forums/showthread.php?p=1384 says you can...
Things are finally falling into place. I found dog crates to use for pens, I've got somebody local who can sell & incubate eggs for me, I've got a local source of feed and the woman at the recycling center wants to raise quail with me, so we're going to scour the place for supplies to set up...
Without going into excessive detail, somebody offered me dog crates to use for housing quail. She's also interested in raising some herself, too. One less thing to worry about! Now, if I'm changing the water regularly, is there any reason I can't use saucers & dishes with rocks for water...
I've posted in other folders but figured I'd give one more try here in case somebody local hadn't seen it. Making a long story short, my husband's been out of work for 7 months. I'm trying to be proactive and figure out ways to save money on food for our family. Coturnix quail seem like the...
I was going to start with Coturnix this spring, but my borrowed incubator fell through and I'm not in a position to buy one. My husband has been unemployed for seven months and I was really hoping save some money by raising them. Is there anybody who I can beg to incubate some eggs for me...
Is there any reason I can't put BSF grubs IN the litter tray so they just eat the poop as the birds make it? Without a ramp out, they'd pupate in the same tray, then fly away, then come back to the droppings tray to lay eggs, unless I'm missing some basic bit of information?
Check out this black soldier fly composter!

I want to figure out if I can scale it back for quail. Wouldn't that be cool?
Hi! I'm currently in a bind and was hoping somebody may be able to help me out. My husband has been unemployed for nearly 7 months now and we're really struggling to make ends meet. Quail & quail eggs seem to be an affordable source of protein and I can raise them legally with only a ten...
I've got this planned... find and build hutches, borrow the bator from the inlaws, set up a batch of coturnix for eggs and meat, researched the license, I've got it all planned... except for one thing. I've never actually *TASTED* quail or quail eggs. Is this going to be a big mistake?
OK, so you have your eggs in the incubator and then they hatch. They move from there to the brooder where they go until they're able to go outdoors to the rabbit hutches or wherever you put them. Then once they're fully sexually mature, you need to make sure the hens are in with an appropriate...
Is it possible to build an inexpensive quail tractor? I love the idea of scaling down a chicken tractor. No idea what sort of preds are in this area, though.
