    Abdominal Mass ? Graphic photos

We had a Runner duck, about 5 years old who over the last couple of months started getting a bigger and bigger abdomen, to the point it was making it difficult for her to walk. On examining her, her abdomen was soft, just very large, and she did not seem too distressed by my examining her...

How long is the molt process?

Some of my girls are looking like they are starting to molt and I have had a little drop in egg production. If I started a forced molt for everyone now, would they get their new feathers before it gets cold? --- about the end of October so -- is two months long enough? thanks.

Odd find at duck harvest today

We harvested several ducks and drakes today. When I started pre-plucking one of the ducks I felt something large and hard just below her rib-cage and thought it might be an extra large gizzard. After she when thru the plucker it felt loose in her abdomen and much larger than previously. This...

    Hard boiled duck eggs

Does anyone have the experience of feeding hard boiled eggs back to their ducks or geese. I have always thought that sounded a bit strange but right now I'm overrun with eggs -- don't want to just waste them and I know they are good protein. so --- any thoughts?

    longest incubation time

I have some eggs in the incubator - one group is at 34 days the other at 30 days. I know I had too low a temperature for most of the incubation period. (discovered much too late). Now I have had 2 Indian Runners hatch and seem ok (they were at 31 days from the first group, 2 that I helped with...

    Goslings sitting with "Auntie"

I have two trios - this year all four geese made nests and have been sitting - two (one of each trio) started sitting about 1-2 weeks before the other one of their trio. My question is --- in the past, once one of the geese started hatching her eggs, the other goose abandoned her nest to be...

    Please HELP

Hi all - I wrote a few days ago saying my goose had hatched, and checking on what to do with the other eggs -- several days later on advice from here, I candled the eggs - only one viable so I put it back and she has been sitting on it for a couple of days. --- Just now I looked out and thought...

One Hatched -- how long to wait for the others?

One of my geese hatched one of her eggs -- nice little Pom baby -- and she is still sitting on several other eggs while the gander is minding the new gosling. How long is it ok to wait before pulling out the eggs and candling them? --- and if they are ok-- will she take them back? Thanks for any...

    American Blue

One of my American Blue Geese (3 years old) just hatched her first gosling. Last year she abandoned her nest when another goose hatched some goslings -- so this is so exciting--- she now has one of her own! She is sitting on a bunch more eggs, so I'm hoping we'll see more later today or tomorrow.

    Aggressive Drake

I was just wondering if anyone has found one breed of drake to be more or less aggressive than another. We have Indian Runners, Saxony and Ancona. We kept the males separate until the last couple of weeks -( I want to gather eggs to incubate). There are two drakes and 10 ducks in the Saxony...

    Molting Problem?

I have a year old Saxony duck that is taking a lot longer to finish molting than her sisters. She is still looking really scruffy and the rest of them are pretty well all set with new feathers. Is this just within a normal range of time, or could there be another problem I should attend to. She...

Goose with "Egg" on his face

I have a nice little pomeranian gander that was hatched the first week of May. He has always been with some Saxony and Runner ducks and seems quite content and likes to "guard" them. Recently I have noticed I am getting fewer and fewer eggs each day. I have also noticed some yolk colored...

    Goose wants a new family

Hi - just wondering if any else has had this experience and what you did that worked or didn't for your goose? I have a two year old Pomeranian goose "Susie" who is part of a nice Trio that I got from DH 2 years ago as new goslings. Susie has recently decided to hang out with my American Blue...
