I've read on this site/forum where people are feeding hay and or Alfalfa flakes to their chickens.
Then I read and see photos about chickens with impact crops having surgery and their crops are full of hay!
Just wondering what some of you 'long time' chicken owners think about this and or...
I was looking through the Woods design of open air poultry houses and came across this site.
I love this idea for a coop....has anyone bought/built one of these?
Wish I seen this design before building mine.

I am interested in building a chicken tractor for next year, so that I can move the chickens around for different areas to graze.
I am also interested in getting the electric poultry fence but that will be only used when I am in the near vicinity as we have lots of hawks and other birds of...
I had a smaller branch of white pine in the run and the chickens loved nibbling on it so today I gave them a larger branch.
Thought I'd share this little video
I was reading through the Impact Crop post and one of them said there was an article regarding this in the Learning Centre
I can not find the article on 'Impact Crop Prevention' or what foods may be questionable to feed.
I do not have a chicken with an Impact Crop but it seems like good...
I am going into town this afternoon and wanted to pick up some grains to Ferment.
Wondering what are some of the better choices in grains for my chickens.
I apologize if this has already been posted some where else or within another post.
Thank you
Even though I built the chickens a nice covered sand box it was too close to run wall and the rain penetrated the wood. I did have the box slightly elevated but the wood it's self got wet and the sand just sucked up the moisture.
I have the sand in several containers in the basement trying to...
Today I was cleaning a large salmon and had the head and tail left. I thought I'd see if my recently acquired Marans and Olive Eggers would like it ....boy some of them sure were. I took a short video of them eating and chasing each other :)

I was looking at some of the photos and when I clicked to enlarge it, I get a message that says I do not have permission.
Is there another way to view these photos larger than the little thumbnail?
Thanks
I have just torn down & dismantled my large garden and will be planting some winter rye.
Early next spring I was thinking of letting the chickens have access to it and compote and tear it up ready for me to plant my garden again.
Does anyone else do this or have thoughts to share.
I looked at all the lovely photos of Arianna's (Gold Feather member) chicken run but could not find any info on the material used to cover the raised grazing beds.
If you are reading this Arianna could you share and or if anyone else knows please let me know. Thank you.
PS yes I know I...
I was looking for feedback in regards to installing a metal roof on the run do you also have small mesh wire (1 x 1) all the way under it or just maybe a foot along the edges. The run I'm building is 24' x 17'
I have read a couple good reviews about this, especially that it is not dusty.
Wondered if anyone here uses it and if so where did you purchase it?
Thanks
my apologies for starting another thread but I couldn't find what I was looking for.
Is there such a chicken door that works automatically with the sunrise/set and that can also be set for a specific time?
Thanks for any and all feedback
I am in the process of building my coop. Not just ready to buy any chicks or chickens yet as I would like to be a little closer to completion before I do that. Meanwhile I am enjoying looking at the different breeds and checking out the different coops and pens.
This is what I've built so far.
