Me too please! Sex my Silkies (lots of pics)

Here are my three 7wk old babies. They are so much fun! Thanks in advance for the help . #1 #1 and #2 #2 #2 comb #2 full body #3 #3 full body (he was shaking, those aren't freaky feathers ) They are not siblings--they came from different parent stock entirely so I can't...

Good breed for a friend's pond?

One of my coworkers has a large pond/small lake on her property, complete with what she thinks is an old duck house on a small island in the middle of it. She asked if I could hatch out a few ducks for her. Neither of us knows anything about ducks, so here I am for some info. She wants birds...

    Overfilling the bator?

I just received my shipment of silkie eggs and the lovely woman who sent them included 2 1/2 times the number of eggs I had paid her for! I am most appreciative, especially since I know she can charge quite a bit for her eggs. They all arrived safely, but now I am in a bit of a fix. I ordered...

Bantam Buff Cochin roo over ISA Brown pullets???

So what can I expect from my little fluffies? I brought a few eggs back from a visit to my aunt*s place in Michigan just to try hatching some of her babies. They all hatched out with feathered feet and the cutest little tusshies. A week on one of them is getting very dark brown, almost...

Least stinky way to keep button quail???

Okay quail folks--I hatched 7 buttons nearly a month ago and they are cute as can be, but OMG do they smell! I*ve had them in a 10 gallon tank and a medium bird cage (both are too small for 7 grown birds, I know, but I*m using them for brooders) with about 3 inches of wood chip bedding and...

    White Grubs?

Any reason why I shouldn*t be tossing white grubs (you know, the ones that you find curled up when you pull up a clump of grass in your yard) to my two little pullets? We*ve been puling up weeds and clumps of crabgrass in the yard and the girls nearly sit in my lap and shake in anticipation of...

Need help with an A-frame tractor design

Hello all! I*m having my first coop built (hubby and his carpenter buddy are going to have a beer-grill-building day this weekend) and I need some help on the design. I*ve decided on an a-frame tractor type, but there seem to be 2 different concepts and I*m looking for some advice. This type...

Do they usually pip right side up or upside down?

I have two eggs pipping right now and one beak is upside down (and pipping out the upper side of the egg) and the other is right side up and pipping out the bottom. Normal? The upside down small end one pipped about 26-30 hrs ago.

Woke up this morning to my first pip! Now I understand why everyone posts about sitting next to their bators staring for hours on end .

Why didn*t anyone tell me they move?!?!

I*m on day 7. I saw veins on day 4 and thought that was cool, but today I checked again, and the little embryos are moving around! One of the little buggers is actually dancing . I had no idea they moved around so much--even my husband thought it was cool (the first time he seemed impressed...

    I can see them!

I*m on day 5 of my first hatch (just using a little R-com mini and scope) and I can see veins and teeny little embryos in 2 of my three Welsummer eggs! Can*t see much in the other, but it is much darker than the other two. I can*t believe how exciting this all is!
