    Heat & Elderly Chickens?

I think yesterday's heat wave might've gotten to my six-year old chicken. Last night, she was panting and wouldn't sit down on the roost (she'd stand and just tuck her tail down). She's had watery poops with a little solid all day / night and today she is not her normal self. Kinda lethargic and...

    Torn Comb?

I just noticed this as my chickens were going to roost tonight. The fresh blood is coming from along her comb on one side & is falling all over her head. She was much too squirmy for me to inspect anything. Is this something I can fix/treat or would it be more humane to put her down? Is there...

    Eat lobe hanging off

Came home & found my girl's ear love hanging off. Took her inside and cleaned it, by the other chickens think it's a worm and won't leave it alone. Can I snip the skin off or what should I do? Never had a chicle injury before. She didn't wail too much when I cleaned it with q-tips.

Hen won't let new pullets lay

My Welsummer hen (we raised from a chick last February) won't let our new pullets lay. Our one new girl who wants to lay will go in the box, but if the Welsummer finds her, she attacks her pulling out feathers. Any ideas as to stop her? Background: We only had two hens throughout the winter...

FIRST DEAD CHICKEN. (pictures of yellow something by where feathers begin?)

Hi, everyone. Husband and I got our first chickens this past February: three hens -- wyandotte, buff orp, and welsummer. They free-range a bit and have a nice 100 square foot pen to roam around in too. We live in the Midwest, but have had some nice weather recently. Shut the girls in the coop...

Curling Chick Toes + Temperature // New Chicken Mama's Questions of Late

Once the brooder reaches my house temperature (we usually keep the house between 68 and 70), do I just turn the heating lamp off and replace it with a regular lamp to control lighting throughout the day? I know the chicks can go outside all night once its 50 degrees, but that's not predicted...

Enlarged Vent? New mama needing a diagnosis -- has picture!

Hi! New Mama here! I just got this Silkie last night, and I noticed after I got her home and today that her vent seems to be "big" (this is the first time at chicks for me, so I apologize about the best descriptions) and it will pulsate. Is this normal? Is she just stressed getting into her...

First Time Mama: Chicks & Pecking!

HELP! I introduced our Welsummer here last night saying we were getting two others on Tuesday. Well, we just couldn't leave her lonely that long, so we bought a silkie bantam from FFH in Holland. Now, our Welsummer is pecking at the Silkie's feet and face! The Welsummer was only alone as one...
