I placed 11 eggs under our broody buff 5/18. Monday the 8th 4 hatched and 5 eggs were left, she had kicked out two earlier in the game that were bad. One of the last blue eggs I had under her exploded. I cleaned up the eggs and candled them. I can not hear peeping. Three I could not see anything...
Hi everyone,
We lost our first hen today. She laid a perfect egg day before yesterday. It's not unusual for her to skip a day or two. I let them all out to free range around 10. At noon I noticed her sitting under a tree by herself and figured she was just dust bathing. At 2 I brought out...

She can still fly, seems ok but after I washed it out and put peroxide/polysporin on it and dried her off she started pecking at it and made it bleed. There is a red thing hanging from the wound and I think that is what she is messing with. Looks like it could be her vein but after I washed it...
The one on the right has more red.
The one on the left has lighter red and more cream. Here is the profile.
Here is the profile of the one with darker red on her neck.
Any information you can provide at all is much appreciated as we are new chicken owners. Have done tons of research but...
Just wanted to give a shout out. I've been learning lots and look forward to our chicken adventure this year. Building the coop has been a huge learning experience on its own. We are building a 8 x 12 shed to house our 10 girls. (at least we are hoping they are all girls) I will be posting lots...
