Getting 20 BBB Poults in June and need to build a brooder. Since the temps are soo high here by June I think they will be fine outside by about 3-4 weeks old. So I need to size the brooder so that they have plenty of room up until about 4 weeks old.
Thanks for any advice
So we discovered some evidence of, lets call it a non-chicken, in the coop where our broody hen has her 2 baby chicks. I was hoping to get some opinions from this knowledgeable crowd on our CSI evidence. There is debate in the house DW says opossum and DH says squirrel. What do yall think?
We retrained our free range birds to stay off the porch last year. It worked (sorta) they still come under during the rain. This was the celebration from it working :)
We recently decided to really upgrade our composting game. One of the biggest roadblocks we had before going with a large compost was turning the material on a regular basis. We found a solution!
One of our Lavender Marans hens has gone broody in the dead of winter of course. Luckily it doesnt get too frigid here in South Louisiana. She was sitting the eggs in the laying box so we had to move her and it was a bit of an adventure :) enjoy.
So we have been raising Narragansett and midget white turkeys for about year(mostly Nari). In the time we have processed two of them. One at about 4 months old and one at about 9 months old. Both had EXCELLENT flavor, but both were very chewy. I did salt water brine them over night, but still...
I want to document a case of avian pox. We had this in our flock last year and it was really scary because of how ugly it looks and how long it lasts. We actually lost 2 birds to this because we didnt know what to do. I want to try to help anyone new to this. It is NOT blackhead which is deadly...
I am confident I am not hurting the birds, but I am wondering if we are cutting more feathers than necessary. I ask because I have 1 year old birds that still havent grow back their wing feathers. Thanks for the help
Ok I posted this in the raising chicks, and now I am wondering if it belongs here instead. I am raising red rangers on organic feed and pasture in a tractor(they are still in the brooder at this point) I am keeping track of on going costs.
Hopefully this can be helpful for anyone considering...

One of the best things about this means that our big aggressive Tom turkey gets to go to freezer camp now YAY! Im...
Hi BYC,
We are super excited. We found a local breeder (local as in had to drive a few hours) that had some black copper marans chicks! We have been looking for these birds for a while and I didnt want to order from a hatchery. I was after something with proven egg quality and I found them. The...
