Hi! 8 week old bird with red and black wings is obviously not the barred rock pullet we thought we purchased at 3 day’s old. Please help me figure out what the breed is, and if it’s a rooster! Thanks in advance!
Our 3 hens enjoy grazing in our backyard all day.
The grass there is very weedy due to the poor quality soil, and I'd like to try to use herbicides and fertilizers to actually turn it into a nice lawn.
If I do that, will it hurt my chickens? And can we eat their eggs?

Hi all!
Our hens are preferring to roost on top of the coop, rather than in it. It is irritating, because they get there before ready to put them away, and they poop on the top, making a big mess. It's not that we mind grabbing them up and put them into the coop, we just want them to go there...
One of our five chicks, a golden Seabright, started recently constantly goes after all the other chicks. Unprovoked.. They are now 6 weeks old. The sebright was a straight run......could that be a sign that he's a rooster? If so, I'd rather rehome it before the kids get so attached. I think...
We have five chicks next to heat that are now five weeks old. They continue to huddle right on the side nearest the heat lamp, so every time we start to move it a foot back away from the heat lamp, we end up moving it back, since they're acting cold. Should we just be coldhearted and make the...
We just saw this bird go after our grown hens! I'm assuming it's a hawk of some sort (would love to know the kind if you know), but we were shocked to see it swoop in, under our back porch, to try and grab lunch! After a commotion he flew off to the fence and watched for awhile...it just...
Hi!
I am leaning towards purchasing this coop....it comes in a box, takes about one hour to assemble, and cost $280. Found it on Houston's Craigslist. The company name is Taiyuan Wood Products out of China. If you have any feedback on the coop or its manufacture, please share it with me...
