    Chick pipped day 18???

I went to put my eggs in lockdown and found someone already pipped!! I had the lid off for a minute or two. I put him in my backup bator and cranked the humidity. He squeaked a lot when I picked him up but now that he is in the new bator he isn't making any noise and now I'm freaking out...

Anyone use these pens for baby chicks?

Hi I'm planning on hatching in a couple months. Wanted to know if anyone has experience with this sort of set up. Want to keep them in my spare room to age 8 weeks. Will hopefully have approx 20 birds. My main question is, how do you clean it? I have a few ideas but I want to know what other...

What to do with broody prone hen

Hi everyone I have a black australorpe that went broody maybe 4 or 5 times this year. She was hatched June 2017. Going into her 2nd year of laying, will her broodiness decrease or will she just continue on? I kept her in the broody buster (rabbit cage on top of bricks in the run) for 3 days...

    My experience with bumblefoot

Hi everyone, I wanted to share with you today about the bumble foot I just attempted to treat. I don't have any pictures but it wouldn't be anything you haven't seen before on the forums about bumblefoot. My 1.5 yr old silver laced wyandotte started showing signs of swelling in the webbing...

    Ventilation suggestions?

Please tell me where you would place windows in this coop. Desperately need ventilation, not sure where to cut the wood. I'm thinking the narrow, long, top section of the wall that meets the roof. I think all of that could come out on each side (left and right from the front door). Thanks in...

Our hen snuggling up under our rooster

She does this a lot. Sometimes I see just her beak and her legs right behind his. It's pretty cute...

    What breed is this hen?

Hey thanks for looking. This hen is approx 5 years old. She has thicker legs than her flock mates of a similar age. She stands shorter, too. Now that I think about it, I've never seen her in the nest boxes. Don't know if she lays so I couldn't tell you egg color. We get pale brown eggs from her...

How did it come to this? (Chicken Math strikes again)

This spring around February I decided to try to hatch some of our eggs from our flock. I thought it would be fun and at the time figured we could use more layers. We only got about a dozen eggs a day! Besides, our roo is an Easter Egger and we wanted more than just brown eggs. Olive eggs sounded...

    Sex opinions?

Hatched these wheaten/blue wheaten cross ameraucanas just about 5 weeks ago. Breeder had mostly wheaten hens with a wheaten and a blue wheaten cockerel swapped in and out of pen. Some may be from blue wheaten hens. I have a couple black ameraucanas from a BBS pen but the sex is not guessable I...

I usually dump my old shavings in the woods... But with the Coop Dust I'm afraid I'm going to poison the land and animals. What do I do with this bedding?? What have you done with coop dusted bedding? Bag it and trash it....?

Day old chick has bum leg

I have a chick that won't fully extend its right leg. It keeps it close to its body and the toes are not curled. It tries to stand but the leg stays in the folded position. Is there anyone that has seen this and has any idea what I could do to help?

Mareks vaccine before 24 hrs of age?

Can I administer this vaccine if they are 12-24 hrs old? Edit: I decided against trying to vaccinate. I tried and just chickened out! They are just so little!

Some water splashed on my eggs...

On day 19/currently in lockdown. Humidity was 50% so I went in to add some warm water. A few drops splashed on 2 eggs. Are they going to be okay? I'm thinking so but I wanted to see if anyone knows anything from experience. Thanks!

    Hovabator 1602N not holding temp

Hi everyone, wondering if anyone has experience with this issue. I have had room temp stable around 65 deg F. I am using an incutherm thermometer with extended probe situated between two eggs. The bator has a fan installed and I have the auto egg turner maxed out with 42 eggs. Set eggs on...

Do you repeat ivermect pouron after 7 days on chickens

Hey guys (: Started seeing mites crawling on the eggs. Long story short I treated every chicken with 5-6 drops ivermectin pour-on (5% for cattle) 7 days ago. Now from what I've read about treating these little monsters (northern fowl mite is probably what I'm dealing with) you need to re-treat...

Does this look like scaly leg mites to you?

This is a RIR and speckled Sussex. 3 months old. I saw the RIR gnawing on her toe for a second yesterday and started panicking. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

In NYS here, chickens hatched June 28th. When will I get eggs? Plus questions about layer feed.

Hi there everyone. I am hoping someone out there has an idea of when I might get some eggs being laid. I have: Rhode Island Red, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Speckled Sussex, Welsummer, Salmon Faverolles, and a few black chickens of questionable breed (sold as black marans but 2 of the 3 have...
