I bought 2 dozen eggs from a BYCer, 1 dozen BCMs and 1 dozen frizzled cochins, at a heavy discount due to the fact that the eggs were older than she usually shipped. I got the eggs this morning and the cochins are fine but the BCMs are filthy. I personally have never seen eggs this dirty...
OK. I know your supposed to be able to tell gender at about 2 weeks of age according to wing color (salmon for girls, black for boys). Certainly seems simple doesn't it? My 6 faverolles chicks all look different, from pure white wings (what is up with that?!) to varying amounts of brown white...
So I live in the suburbs on a pretty decent size lot. I let my hens out to free range in my backyard pretty much every day. Sunday before last I had 5 out of my 10 chickens vanish. I walked around the neighborhood and the neighbor behind me told me that they were in his (unfenced) backyard...
I bought these birds around June 20th and the guy told me that they were still young but would be laying soon. Well, its been months and I still have no eggs.... Any ideas on how old these girls actually are? They are an Easter egger and a Production Red if that helps.
O.k guys, I'm pretty sure that my polish is going to turn out to be a cockeral. No signs of crowing though.... which has me second guessing myself. He's so beautiful, I'm hoping that I might be able to keep him even if a cockeral. What are the chances he'll stay nice and quite if it is a boy...
