Everywhere I look I read that cochin are average egg layers. This fact almost discouraged me from getting the 2 bantam that I have now. We got them in January of this year and they started laying the next week. It looks like 1 is about 1 year old and the other looks at least 2 years old, but we...
any idea what these yellow birds are? They are all 5 weeks old. The black ones are bantam cochin cross from my flock that I hatched. The yellows are supposed to be Cornish Rocks cross from Tractor Supply, but now I know they are some type of bantam as well:

Ok, I've been saving eggs all week and have been planning to set them tomorrow, Sunday 2/6/11, not sure what time. Have not researched why everyone chooses a time yet? I've been busy today building and testing my DIY ice chest incubator and just realized, ..... tomorrow is the SUPER BOWL ...
Ok, I have trained my 2 bantam cochin and old english bantam rooster to roost in the top of the chicken tractor in the coop by setting a solar yard light to shine in there and turn on at dusk. It took about 3 days of me setting them in the coop at the top each night. They have even started...
I noticed earlier this week that my roo smells like bad body oder. My chickens smell fine. I have only had my flock a few months and have put them together from different sources and the roo is the only smelly one. He seems healthy and happy. I checked him for mites and did not see any. I check...

I have 2 bantam Cochin that are laying, 1 Polish that i'm trying to incorporate into my flock and 6 silkies from 2 months old up to 4 months old. I've been trying to incorporate the Polish hen into my flock for the past...
Put a heat lamp in my chicken tractor. Temp this morning was 29 and the temp gauge inside the tractor coop was reading 50. I used a 60 watt bulb cause it's warm but not hot enough to burn. Also put a blanket over to help keep the heat in. Just in cause anyone else was wondering how well it would...
