How to collect eggs to take somewhere to incubate...

Hi Everyone. I am pretty new to chickens and am wanting to collect some of my fertile eggs to take to a person who hatches eggs professionally. I understand that I can collect for 7 days, right? Where do I keep them? My house ranges from 60-66 degrees. Outside is about 30-60 degrees. I also...

    My cochin... what color?

She is lighter than a buff, but she is not white. Is there another color or is she just a light buff? Her name is Fifi, and I just love her. Yes, you needed to know that! Ha ha... actually, she was an "ooops" bird that I bought as a chick and was supposed to be a different breed. And now... she...

Buff Wyandotte roo or pullet? (more pictures added)

This is my first time raising chickens. I have Buff Wyandottes I bought as pullets. They look the same, except this one started making funny noises when I gave them snacks yesterday and 'she' has darker tail feathers, (You can kinda tell in the photo) than the other one. Thoughts? THESE PHOTOS...

What kind of Cochin is this chick?

And what will she look like when she grows up? Any photos would be greatly appreciated. She was sold to me as a maran, but I don't think she is one. The breeder has buff and lemon blue cochin. She has tan lacing on her feathers on her back. Meet.... Gigi.

Can you help a non-building type woman find coop plans?

I know NOTHING about building, but my 12 year old son will help me. He had woodworking for several years. Anyway, when I look online some of the sites seem like a scam. I need plans that are VERY easy to use. Ones that spell each step out, give diagrams, list all the items needed. Super simple...

Which Polish breed is best for egg production?

I understand Polish are a good white egg laying breed that are not flighty. But there are so many different types. If I am looking for good production and large eggs, which variety is best, or is the specific line you buy from what matters? If I buy a show quality bird for my son's 4-H project...

Will chickens follow you to a pen in the morning?

I have a very large grassy area I can fence in for the chickens, but it is a ways away from the shed I want to use as a coop. Is it possible to lead them to the grassy area every morning and put them in the shed at night? Thanks! Kisa

If I put my hens away at night, do I have to worry about predators?

I plan to use a large dog kennel for the hens during the day and a shed for them at night. The kennl is 6' high chain link. We do have owls and hawks as well as loose dogs. But would they attack during the day? I plan on buying only larger fowl. No bantams. Thanks!

What breed lays green eggs and what is the best breed for white eggs?

I don't care for the olive green eggs, but I like the truer pale green eggs. I know the true Ameraucana lay blue. For a white egg layer I don't want something flighty or that needs to free range. Is there such a thing as a friendly, easy going white egg layer? When I reasearch the various...
