I'm moving in with a friend soon, and I want to bring some of my chickens with me out of my parents' coop.
I'm a college student, so I can't afford an elaborate build, so here's the idea I had in mind.
Large dog run/kennel with mesh overtop and around gaps, with a lean-to type coop inside...
I hope this is the right thread for this...
I'm taking in a 3 year old filly, but she's a long way away from me.
I've already got a volunteer to bring her as far north as Rentz, Georgia, and I'm in Cornelia, Georgia.
If you've got a truck and trailer and can volunteer it will be greatly...
I have a friend who is considering getting chickens, but there are some specific things he'd need in a breed.
They would have to:
Be good for free range (his land is rather open, surrounded by woods and cow pastures.)
Preferably be rather gamey.
Have a decent egg-laying ability, though he...
So, I have one Easter Egger rooster, and my horses' farrier is interested in getting some chicks from me if his beard is passed along...
So, I'm wondering. Is it likely to show up in the chicks he sires?
Cruddy picture, I know. It's also a few weeks old. XD
Any information if appreciated...
So, I was visiting my flock and checking them over for injuries, when I came across something kinda gross...
I was prepared for moulting, but I'm kind of confused as to what is going on here.
I found these strange, egg-looking things on a majority of my birds. Is this just a by-product of...
So, I've been on a huge Doctor Who kick, lately, and I'm almost through the last episode with the Tenth doctor...
Well, today I went out into my coop'n'run, and I realized something awesome about my Black Copper Marans rooster.
He has the best "hair" ever! It was even found it pretty similar...
I've seen a few videos on youtube of hens singing their egg song... and it has a distinct "buk buk buk BUKAW buk buk buk BUKAAAW" like pattern to it, if I'm hearing correctly.
Yesterday, I went down to the coop upon hearing this pattern.... and my Easter Egger rooster was singing it! He was...
Don't mind the pun in the title...
Ok, here's the gist of it.
I would really love to get a Brinsea mini advance incubator, but it's just so expensive everywhere I look! For a college student working minimum wage ~20 hours a week, $150 is a LOT of money!
I tried a super cheap, $17 incubator...
I haven't actually BEEN to a country fair, or any kind of fair for that matter, since I was knee-high to a grasshopper, so I was thinking back on it recently, as there's been a lot of talk around my town about the fair being in town.
I vaguely recall stalls and cages in which many farm animals...
First off, I'm using a super cheap incubator that was a gift... It's probably not even worth the price, but my friend picked t up for $17.
I'm doing this mostly for the fun of it, and if it works my little brother's going to document the whole thing to use as his science project this semester...
Less than an hour ago, my mom called me to go check on the chickens, as one seemed to have a broken leg, 'cause it couldn't stand.
Upon closer inspection, I realized that nothing seemed broken, and his legs are very strong, grabbing and shoving at my hands when I picked him up.
For whatever...
SO sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, but I've been flailing around, looking at each section and this spot looked best ^^;
Basically, I'm curious about keeping chickens in the house. As I live with my parents and there's a strict "no pets inside" policy, this won't be anything I'm...
Brother's friend says our Rhode Island Red chicks aren't Rhode Island Reds... Now, this is also the boy who sold us two male Easter Eggers as female Amaraucanas, so I'm going to ask the board.
Boy says they're "Red Feathered Sussex," or something like that. Help?
The chicks are about 6 weeks...
So, my Mom got a bunch of straight run chicks, and now it's my job to find out what they are. They came home on June 10th, and I think they were about a week old at the time, so I guess that puts them at around 5-6 weeks?
I don't want to flood this post with pics, so here's a link to the blog...
This morning I went out to check on my babies, and found this little girl sitting WAY too still. A few moments later, my sister informed me she was like this last night as well.
Moments ago, while I was trying to warm her up in case that was the problem, I noticed some discharge coming from...
Little brother and I are interested in getting into the fun of chicken showing as soon as possible...
I've been flailing about Google looking for leads, but it's a jumbled mess of past events and out of state mumbo jumbo!
Can anyone help me? Our only showers are a pair of OEGB's, so a venue...
Turkens found! Please disregard this thread, thanks you!
I'm looking to buy two Turken / Naked-neck pullets, Preferably of show-quality conformation. Must be girls!
I'm located in North East Georgia, Jackson county area.

So, I have two beautiful Amaraucanas, but I haven't the slightest clue if the kid I got them from was telling the truth about their gender, especially after seeing some pics of the breed here!
They're both about 8 weeks old, and just today I caught them facing off, though no kicking happened...
Hi all!
I'm a newbie to all things chicken, and this forum kept popping up on my internet searches for chicken information, so I figured, hey, that might be a good place to just default to.
So, here I am. I'm always nervous about joining new forums because I know there's probably some close-nit...
