hi,
i just got some baytril 22.7mg x1 a day from a vet. he diagnosed a respiratory infection.
but he didn't weigh the chicken though, so i'm a bit suspect of the dosage.
using the 10 mg/kg guideline (thanks BYC !!)
she's 2.6 lbs (2 lb 10oz) or 1.2 kg
means she only need HALF of the prescribed...
took her to the vet today. he said it was a respiratory infection. 50/50 chance, Baytril/Enrofloxacin 22.7 mg for 10 days. the foot will heal, or she might loose her toe, but the lungs are the main problem now. we're isolating, which is easy since she's not moving a lot.
her crop is fine and...
as far as i know she hasn't laid a egg yet, but it's hard to tell since she's part of a flock of 12 we got in march and only some of them started laying. i was hoping hers would be the easy ones to tell if they were going to be blue or not brown or white.
i tried to feel for about an 1.2 " for...
hi chicken hive mind,
i'm trying desperately to figure out what's wrong w "lil grey " she's an americuana easter egger 7 mo old. 2lb 10oz as of this am. she's sick, has a hurt foot but may also be egg bound ?
her keen seems good, maybe a bit under nourished. skin turgor decent. no...
yes, it is possible. not sure of the odds but my 3 week old chick was showing signs of cocci (sleepy, puffed up, lethargic but still eating and drinking).
possible bloody stool (it was hard to tell which one of the 12 it was).
i medicated the entire flock for 9 days for moderate outbreak with...
What is the determining factor between moderate and severe outbreak ?
whether one or more of your chickens is suspected of coccidosis or showing symptoms ?
Thanks !
m
I've been to the one at St. Louis. $40 for the visit plus medication. Good luck !

hello from oaktown !
is there a better place on BYC for local/regional posting or is this it ?
like for example, if i was looking for someone to demo butchering/ processing.
thanks

thanks, though i don't think it's scar tissue because there was no cut in that area.
here's a pic of the injury last week before that growth showed up.
i'm hoping the ointment, bandage and time will resolve everything and she's back to laying soon, as with all the injured and sick hens out...
Hi,
One of my leghorns got her leg stuck last tues in between two boards & it scraped her scales off.
we disinfected it with rubbing alcohol, put antibiotic ointment on it, wrapped the leg in gauze, tape and put her in a separate cage for 3 days.
She's been walking around, eating and limping...
thanks all for the responses !
the food was never wet so i don't think it got moldy. i ended up scooping up most of what's was on the ground and switching to a narrower diameter tray with higher lip.
so there's less room to flick food to the ground.
we will probably be switching to pellets...
hi,
i'm helping care for a flock of 25 assorted full size chickens in my community garden. we had a feeder issue where their organic crumbles have accumulated on the ground (straw & dirt) plus the girls are messy eaters. there is probably approximately 1" of food in 3ft diameter on the...
