sounds like you need to get a cat perhaps? or maybe put a chickenin there for a few days if your ducks do not mind . my chickens are just as good of mousers as my cat is i think.

i have like 35 chickens of different ages some old hens 4+years and some pullets that are a few months from laying and this is made up of various breeds and i havent had any problems raising them together and there are even a few roosters mixed in the whole bunch.

i dont even crush them , and i only use them when i have one that insists on eating the eggs she has layed . other than that i use oyster shells

i agree the less cover there is the easier the meal, i have red tail's at my house also . and as far as bantams they really dont stand a chance unless they have help likle a good watch dog. ive lost a few chickens to the hawks but it is the food chain, im just glad im sitting at the top.
