    Baby chicks

Was wondering if anyone out there knows of a reputable hatchery selling Black Copper Marans (want the super dark eggs) and Olive Eggers? I live in WI, would prefer females only. I only want like 2 each. Meyer and My Pet Chicken are out! Thanks for any help!

I am hoping to find hens that lay fairly well during the winter WITHOUT artificial lights. Any suggestions on which breed and where to purchase them? Thanks!

Thanks for the help. I'll look again at the bag. It's not medicated and was told by the feed mill to feed until laying age. Thanks again!!

    Roost bar

Wondering if anyone has heard or subscribes to the style of roost that is all one level. I've read that if the roost bars are staggered that there can be problems with pecking order. Also I was thinking of using 2"X4"s but not sure if they should be flat or on the thinner side?

    feeding young chicks

How long do chicks need to be on the starter feed? I have been told that chicks can go from starter to layer feed. Is this ok?

    General Guinea ?

All such great advise! Well maybe I'll get a couple more than 2. I just want to make sure my coop is big enough. If the guineas like to roost high, do you then have some of the roosts higher?

    Chicks and guinea

Anyone have a couple of guineas with their flock? I have 2 hens and am getting 11 day old chicks this summer (10 pullets and 1 rooster). I am thinking of adding a couple of guineas to help with the tick population and added protection form predators. Any advise would be welcome? Can they be in...

    New to Guinea

Thanks for your advice. I'll definitely do that. They will all be arriving at the same time so this should be easy. Do you think I'll have a problem with getting only 2 to go along with the 13 hens and 1 rooster?

    New to Guinea

To go along with my other question. I was wondering if they come back to the coop like the hens do (they free range most of the day).If they are in the same coop how do I make sure they get the correct food that they need? Thanks for your help.

    General Guinea ?

I am getting about 11 baby chicks ( 10 pullets and 1 rooster) this summer. I have 10 acres of woods. I would like to get a couple of guineas to go in with the chickens. Will the 2 be enough to help with the tick population and help to keep predators away? Can they stay in the same coop?
