Hi ashannon,
I just ordered 2 wire cages from kluberlanz.com (I don't know how to link) they were nice to deal with and the cages will arrive in panels and I'll put them together with the clamps. I thought the prices were reasonable especially since I just don't have time to deal with another...
OK I give I now have 3 hens who have gone broody on me and they are very stubborn girls so I thought I'd let one of them give it a try and I'd really love some Australorps.
Now I have to go build a wire cage.
We are over run with the things here, and this dog is a bit too comfortable getting this close to the house and I really don't want to transfer my problem to someone else. I enjoy listening to them from a distance but I have allot of time and money raising my hens and I can't even tell you how...
Well I'm not "exactly" a hunter but I think she moved in because of the red squirrels I shoot out of our bird feeder, in fact I have some "bait" out there right now.
I'm using a 22 but do I need to get a larger gun? The feeder is only about 20' from the house I was thinking about putting in an...
Anyone have advice about getting rid of a coyote who has taken up residence in our back yard (180 acres of woods & hills)? I've seen her at noon drinking from our pond and scenting the coop, plus she chased a deer through our yard the other morning , so she's feeling pretty comfortable around...
Wilds of PA that Lester is one handsome Rooster!
I don't plug the holes and I have a real love/hate relationship with our maples they are giant weeds around our house so generally I spend lots of time every year cutting down or yanking out as many as possible!
Thank you for putting my mind to rest WoodlandWoman, he's going to do as he wants anyway but it's good to know he'll live to do more crazy things in the future
I boiled down about 12 gallons yesterday (getting about 1/2 gal syrup )
I took my temp up to 217 and checked this morning and I can see that I need to cook it a bit more. I do need to get some filters though.
Unfortunately our temp is going down to the single digits again for a day or so &...
Thanks Hens-And-Chicks sounds like you've been there too....
He washes the eggs really well (they are from our hens) and he runs the blender forever (sometime walking away to do something else ) when he's done theres only tiny grit left so I'm not worried about his intestines just wondering if...
This looks like it could be the spot to post this because it certainly is not a recipe...anyway my dear crazy SO has decided to add whole eggs to his daily smoothes because he decided the shell would provide him some calcium (you really don't want to know what else he adds it's usually gross)...
I cooked down 6 gallons today and have about 1 qt of syrup.
Boil it
If you aren't set up to boil out side, do it on the stove but have your vet fan running and have plenty of towels to wipe up the dripping. Get a candy thermometer find out the temp. water boils (it's 212 here) and just boil...
This is my 2nd year tapping our trees, I spent all last year getting ready to tap again and have been waiting all winter!
I only had small buckets last year and made 2 gallons of syrup. I purchased a pressure canner which couldn't be used on our glass top stove so I ended up getting a 3...
When did your sap start running? and how many trees do you tap?
I just tapped my trees yesterday (just 6) and it just began to run after our -5 temps finally went away:)
All my chickens are silver penciled rocks except the black minorca roo (whos crowing his head off right now). The last photo is one of the hens who at this point are still friendly enough to jump on my lap if I sit down in the yard, I think they want to know when the rest of these boys will be...
