Time to ask another silly question lol

I have another hen that has been broody for about two months. She sits in her nest until late evening, comes out to eat. I think I'll put any eggs in her nest and see what happens. Here is my Roo with the youngling chicks I got with him. Thanks for the advice.

We have nesting~ just not in the boxes *sigh*

I have only had one hen lay in a nesting box. It might be because I let em free range 24/7. They roost in a tree right near my back door. I have to go find their nests lol

Time to ask another silly question lol

Awhile back, I bought some new chicks at Tractor Supply. I guess in March or April. One of the chicks turned out to be a rooster, which is fine with me, I want some baby chicks! The roo is mating with the older rhode island hens I got last summer. My question is, does the hen know the egg(s)...

    Odd behavior and Styro foam

Thanks. I figured the styro foam wasn't good for them. The last piece was under a wood rack that I missed picking up. I recognized the bonk bonk noise they were making pecking on the foam! The hen is back on her nest again lol. If she's happy sitting there all day, then I'm happy too.

    Odd behavior and Styro foam

Hi. My lil black and gold chicken has been acting strange lately, Sitting on her nest all day & night unless I remove her from the nest box. She usually lays one small egg per day but have not seen a egg in at least a week. She looks healthy & walks around fine when I remove her. This hasnt...

How long are eggs good for?

IMP, Thanks for the link. I figured there was a long shelf life but was unsure. Any ideas on why the hen clucks so loudly before and after laying an egg?

How long are eggs good for?

I have (4) Rhode Island red hens and (1) bantam hen. They are laying several eggs per day. I have a fenced in large yard and let them roam. Their nests are sometimes HARD to find. I'd like to know how long the eggs will stay viable (edible) if the eggs are on the nests for several days? Our...

My bad luck as a chicken owner!

Back in the summer, I supposedly bought 6 hens and a rooster. Four of the hens turned out to be "roosters"! I finally gave away the rest of my 3 roos yesterday to a neighbor who butchered them to eat. Finally, last night, I had my first peaceful night of sleeping from the ongoing crowing from...

Who knew roo/hen "sex" could be soooo violent? yikes!!!

I sure didnt! I went out in the backyard near the coop and sounded like something was inside the coop raisin hell Then I saw a roo chasing a hen and mount her. I guess I was kind of shocked by the sexual hair rasining attitude the roo had! Okay, I was shocked . Not a nary egg so far and hope...

    Do hens "crow" like roosters?

I have three big plump white hens. I had another white one that turned out to be a roo instead. Of the three, One is now crowing like a roo but has the large body of a hen. The other white roo is half the size of the three white hens, So I'm kind of puzzled here. Thanks.
