    Fish oil for thin eggs?

I have two ex battery girls (approx 2 and a half years) who are laying paper thin eggs (break immediately in nest box) I am not even sure if one of them is laying.( I think she may have early signs of EP which is being closely monitered) I am not bothered whether I get eggs from them but I am...

lethargic hen, yellow poop, loss of weight/motor skills, depressed

How is your hen now? Have you checked her crop first thing in the morning? (it should be empty) If it is still hard, she may have impacted crop and wont be able to eat. Olive oil and a good massage to the crop throughout the day will help as will live white maggots-(They will help eat through...

18 hour old chick will not walk on feet

Google splayed legs- there's loads of info and pictures of how to splint with excellent results- doesn't take that long to correct by the looks of it. Good Luck

18 hour old chick will not walk on feet

I have absolutely no experience with chicks but have read that you can 'splint' their legs for support with this condition. A q tip or cotton bud I seem to remember was used

lethargic hen, yellow poop, loss of weight/motor skills, depressed

Its basically when the eggs either break inside them or dont go down the oviduct in the way that they should. The yolk is a bacteria haven and causes an infection to build up. With internal laying this gets worse and worse and can eventually push all the organs up, eventually causing breathing...

lethargic hen, yellow poop, loss of weight/motor skills, depressed

Hi, i have posted on here a few times with similar problems. It sounds like it could be EYP (Egg Yolk Peritonitis) or internal laying. I have lost two chooks to this and currently have another with early signs, (mine are ex battery and quite prone to this) I hope it's not this as the long term...

Help! Hen laid clutch of small eggs in 24 hr period now looking unwell

Sorry I really don't know- are the eggs of normal texture or are they 'rubbery'. I would imagine that whatever has happened has obviously made her off olour but the fact she has passed these eggs should hopefully make her feel better. The only thing I would perhaps do is a warm belly bath or hot...

    What are these bugs???

I have heard frontline for cats is great at killing the nasties- but maximum two drops per bird depending on their size. I believe it's unlicenced to use on chooks but have heard it works very well. Thankfully so far not had to try it.

    chicken vomiting help needed

Have you discussed Peritonitis? Symptoms sound similar. Sadly I have lost two chooks to this (though they rallied on for months with the help of Antibiotics) I currently have another chook showing signs of this (particularly with her runny poohs) and am now considering hormone implants...

    My chicken is sneezing!

I agree, though is it is myco I reckon the others will have been infected by now. See how they go, it could be the stress of a new enviroment. Are you using dust free bedding etc? If it continues I agree A/B will be needed- and I would treat them all.

    Leakage from vent? Please help....

I have not heard of black leakage before- could it be dark or dried blood? Could she be injured or could be a prolapse. If she were mine I would claen the area and try to get a better look.

    chicken vomiting help needed

Hi, what is she undergoing tests for? Does her crop feel squishy, particularly first thing in the morning? Crop should empty overnight so if it feels full or squishy in morning she may have sour crop which if too full may make her vomit and be unwell. It would also mean she would not be able to...

No feather on belly or rear....

Could be that she is laying on the area when sleeping or maybe she is feather plucking. I would up the protein a bit in case as theycan pluck feathers to get extra protein. Meal worms are great for a bit of a boost. It doesn't look sore to me. Is she eating and drinking ok? If she is otherwise...

Floppy comb, runny poo, lethargic hen...Help?

My first thought is that it could be Peritonitis. I have lost two chooks to this. I currently have a chook with similar symptoms - her pooh is very runny, almost like runny milk.A/B help but there is no cure- I am currently in discussion with my vet about the possibility of a hormone implant to...

Suprelorin implant (Virbac) stops hens with egg peritonitis laying anymore

Hi, I am very interested in this too. I recently lost a chook to EYP after months of being on and off A/B.(She had got too thin for the implant) I now have another chook showing symptoms and would like to act before it's too late- although she does seem to be losing weight. I have been quoted...

    **GRAPHIC PICS**/Abnormal fat supplies?

Looks like egg peritonitis to me- I think you were right with the internal laying- I don't think that it is fat but the infection you are seeing, hence why she was so thin. The fact that she struggled to breathe whe yo held her shows her internal organs were being pushed as you suggested.

My chicken has a prolapsed vent

When you gently push the prolapse back try holding in place for a few minutes- you are doing the right thing with the honey and prep H but as has already been mentioned she may need a stitch. The only other useful thing I may be able to add other than what has already been mentioned is to try...
