I'm not sure, I've never heard this before, but I just got my first Polish in May of this year to add to my flock of other breeds. I hope they are hardy in cold weather, but just in case I have a seperate building for cold weather months, guess they will just have to move til spring also.

We have had this problem several times. Lost quite a few too. After losing several over time, we started picking at shell just to give a small air hole for breathing. Since we started doing this, we haven't lost any that want to be stubborn and come out the wrong end. Good luck. Air hole...

At 11 weeks they have WAY to much wattle and comb for hens. Definately roos, all of them...So Sorry if you were hoping for hens.

The ones we don't eat, we sell to friends and family for 1.50 dozen. After that any that's left go to farmer's market and sell for 2-3 $ dozen. I increase the price for market due to driving them in and family ALWAYS gets discount....

some better pics and age will help alot. One looks like it could be, but without age it's a little hard to tell.

We have this happen on occasions. I like to think we didn't let them out early enough as the coop is dark and they don't see wellin the dark. So I always put off that I was too late getting out and they couldn't see well enough to get of roosts. If anyone else has ideas, I'm listening also.

My pullets when first laying will lay an egg one day, then take the next off usually. then after that they lay everyday for 5-8 days and take a day off. The real trick is finding the hiding places throughout the yard.

Not sure on breed, the black ones could possibly be austrolorps. They all appear to be hens though.

Since you are excluding cedar, I don't see any problem with it. You are sooooo lucky, we have to by our wood shavings at 6.00 bag and use about 4-6 every other month to keep barn clean. I'm jealous, lol

I would seperate her for a few days. Looks like the pecking order may be a bit rough on her. The others will more than likely peck at her injuries. Put a bit of neosporin on her to help with her wounds. Just keep an eye on her and she'll be fine.

I normally get as close as I can with hatchet, then when I bring bird in to clean up and finish getting ready for freezer, I use a good sharp knife and carve it out.

do you give her oyster shell? It helps keep the egg shells nice and firm. We forgot to give our's oyster shell once and we had eggs like this. Just a thought.

I have a friend who has a completely enclosed pen with coop inside of it. They don't have a door on the coop, just let the chickens come and go inside as they want. They have several animals that run freely but haven't had a problem with the chickens. So I would say as long as pen is secure...

I'm outside of town. I was in town until a few years ago.....I'm so glad to be out away from all the people and neighbors. We used to be over by Walgreens, so this is a blessing to be out here now.
