    I got my day old chicks at the feed store in Petaluma. They also have them at Scotts Valley feed near Santa Cruz, Halfmoon bay feed, and at the feed store in Vallejo. Not sure about the east bay.

    Having a shared wall for your coop and greenhouse would make it easy to keep the chickens warm during the winter.

    My understanding is the pellets and crumbles are the same thing, the crumbles just being broken pellets.

    Why incubate with broody hens around?

    You'll get friendlier birds if you hand raise them but it's obviously less work to let a broody hen do all the work.

    Only one of my four chickens is laying, they're 23 weeks old. The one that is laying started on Friday of last week.

    3 lb or 7 lb feeder for 4 birds?

    I use a 12lb feeder for my 4 hens, I don't see any downside to using a big feeder as long as you hang it somewhere dry and predator proof.
