I don't know what happened. Half of my hen's leg is missing, and bone is exposed. She was enclosed in a coop/run, so it was not an animal attack. I have put her in her own place in the garage, but is there anything I can do for this severe of an injury, or should I just end her suffering?
She has become so sweet! She is still flighty, but she seeks attention from me now. I don't know if she thinks I'm her boy(girl?)friend or what, but she sure has turned the corner. She'll hop up on the deck and sit with me and want me to pet her.
I have a Silkie that the rest of my flock picks on relentlessly. She now spends all of her time alone either hiding somewhere in the yard or in a nesting box. It has gotten to the point that I have to chase all the other chickens out of the run and guard her just so she can drink water without...
Are blue ears typical with this breed? And I was pretty sure she was a hen, but her comb and waddles are starting to make me wonder. What say you, oh great chicken experts?
I got these two Silkie hens yesterday. The one on the left is really pretty, and doesn't really match any color specification completely. We named her Penny. :)
I have 7 eight week old chickens. They all ganged up on my Turken and plucked her tail feathers. The area is fairly bloody. I removed her and separated her. Is there anything else I need to do?
How reliable is that? I got 6 chicks. What are the chances of having 6 hens? lol I'll probably post comb pictures tomorrow.... The 3 Reds and the Golden all have really really light yellowish combs, but the Turken and the Delaware's aren't as light.
I'm Jessica, and I live in Sioux Falls, SD. I'm new to chickens!! We have 7 chicks. 3 reds, 1 (I'm pretty sure) Delaware, 1 Turken, 1 Silkie, and 1 that I have NO CLUE what it is! lol They are so fun. My kids love them! I've learned a LOT from BYC!
