today is the 22nd day. I'm going to wait but I doubt anything will happen. I'm left with 2 silkie mixes. One is black (her name is Thing 1) and one is yellow with brown stripes on her back (Thing 2) I love those lil chicks.
Yes I did. My very first time I hatched eggs I forgot and left the plugs in and all of them hatched. This time 2 did and I just have no hope left for the four still in there..
No they weren't resting... I checked on them. Took them out. Because they were not moving at all. I peeled back a little of the shell and they were dead. This hatch was a disaster. 2 out of 8 hatched.
and another question about the second one that hatched...
It's still attached to the egg with a thick umbilical cord.. Will that fall off? I don't want anything bad to happen... Hatching eggs yourself is fun but it sure does have it's heartbreaks...
I guess this is a somewhat old thread but I had to say this..
OH MY GOD THAT CHICKEN IS SO FREAKING CUTE! I'm glad you decided not to cull her and instead decided to keep her. I read through the pages and this was definitely a story I'll remember!
2 eggs hatched today and two pipped. It's day 20. The two that pipped were fine at first, squirming and chirping and then I checked on them a few hours later and both of them are dead? What happened? I guess I'll hold out hope for my last 4 eggs... I have the right humidity and the temp is 99.5...
Oh yes you can definitely take her out! :) The same thing just happened to me! I only leave them in there (Unless other eggs are hatching out) until they're dry and fluffy.
All 5 hatched! :) I think I'll post a picture of all of them later when the other two are all dry and fluffy. I got another chick that looks exactly like that one. So I got 3 yellows and 2 browns
I started with 6 eggs, 5 made it to lockdown (the 6th one quit early on) and last night I went to bed at around midnight and I knew one had pipped. I got up this morning and I had 2 little chickies in the incubator and the other two eggs have pipped. So if those two hatch out like they should...
For the first 2 weeks we had our chicks in a rat cage (10 of them) and then when the got big enough we put them in a wire dog kennel. This dog kennel fits both of our Saint Bernards in it so there is room for our chicks to fly about until they get their feathers, then once they get their...
I'm assuming it's a mix between my silkie hen and my golden sebright rooster :) but it's so cute. There is 4 other eggs in there that should be hatching soon, too! :D
HOLY SHHHHHHHHEEP! That is a lot of chicks! I only have 29 chicks and taking care of those is a lot of work! How do you handle all those little babies!!?! :) They're adorable!
