What the heck is killing my birds?

Still nothing in the rat traps. Last night something dragged my live trap with the chicken carcass around. The rat poison I have nailed to pallets in the chicken yard is untouched. The rooster is locked up in the hen house at night, I remove the rat poison and let him into the coop yard...

Dead hen, head left beside body..no blood....any ideas?

From what I have read (And may be experiencing) that is weasel behavior. Kill by biting the neck, then open the neck usually by removing the head and lap the blood, then go in through the neck hole and eat internal organs followed lastly by the breast.

What the heck is killing my birds?

I take it my dachshund / chihuahua mix and my Poodle / Jack Russel mix just won't cut it huh? :) They don't like being outside without a human. Unfortunately my big lab also ate rocks and that eventually killed him. I had hoped the llamas would guard the chickens. I guess not.

What the heck is killing my birds?

I'm pretty sure I was dealing with at least two and perhaps even three different preditors. First was coyotes and/or raccoons, just taking away birds at night. When I was down to a handfull and locked them in the coop with the yard, I started loosing them to rat or weasel who then couldn't...

What the heck is killing my birds?

Well I just happen to have a live trap that I have set up several times with chicken liver as bait. Mostly it has been ignored, but a few times bait has disappeared. What I just did was to stuff the latest dead chicken into the trap and locked the rooster in the hen house. There is no way the...

What the heck is killing my birds?

I doubt a snake would eat the skin off of a chicken's head and leave the rest of it intact.

What the heck is killing my birds?

I'm thinking of constructing some weasel boxes with rat traps in them... Maybe I can actually put them in the coop and the chicken (Just the one now!) won't set it off.

What the heck is killing my birds?

My coop is inside a llama pasture with 11 llamas roaming around. I'm not sure where to place a trap or what kind of trap to use. A leg trap would get tripped by a llama, and wouldn't a live animal trap be ignored by such a creature?

What the heck is killing my birds?

I was free ranging my 20 chickens with two roosters. One day I realized I was missing 8 of them! I assumed coyotes and I started closing them up at night in the coop. Then I found new soccer ball sized holes in the chicken wire and more missing birds. I replaced the bottom 3 feet with...
