    chicken id banding

This is good info. We are having to move into temporary housing where I doubt that I'll be able to keep my babies. :( While I'm very sad about this situation, I'm thankful to have a friend/neighbor who will be willing to help house them over the winter for me while we find a new acreage. I...

Alrighty, have a looky please: What am I?

Barred Rock Delaware, huh? Thanks! I'm wondering on the Barreds if I don't have one of each...I pinned both in the coop together so I could have a closer examination of them. We used to be able to tell them apart as chicks, one had one white dot on the head and one had two. As they grew, they...

Alrighty, have a looky please: What am I?

Wow, I wish chickens wouldn't vary so much between breeds. I had looked at pictures comparing other barred rocks to mine...and I have my husband insisting that they are roos and my mom insisting they are hens. They don't have a rooster body, but they have extremely large combs and waddles. One...

Alrighty, have a looky please: What am I?

I have two other Barred Rocks, you can see them in the background. Not to happy, I bought THEM at TS as PULLETS. Now I have to make a difficult choice on what to do. Lovelace, the name of this one, is a keeper. The other two Straight Barred Rock "pullets" *rolling eyes*, Speckles and...

Alrighty, have a looky please: What am I?

I thought my roo was going to be a Silver Laced Wy, however the more he grows the more obvious he is not going to be. He is still so beautiful, very proud of my roo. But, still would be good to know what he is for fair time when my daughter exhibits him- (he's her bird!) although my guess is...

I lucked out. My mother added on to her house a couple years ago and had left over lumber. I was able to snag it along with some free lumber from craigslist and build a pretty nice coop for my ladies. I had given the same thought about using baby monitors...but I thought perhaps I was a bit on...

    What is she?

I think I've figured it out on my own. I found some picts of EEs on here that look like her. Probably had some Arucana in her at some point....some of those pictures look like her as well. Our Daisy's a bit of an "ugly duckling" right now, but it looks like she'll turn out to be a looker once...

    What is she?

I have a little pullet..i thought she a leghorn but she has since developed light buff markings similar to a silver laced wyandotte. She is all white base, with some black under across her back, then her wings and breasts have these light buff tips. ? Not sure how to upload pics yet...not sure...

    Hello from the Meloy peeps!

Sorry, misspoke. I meant two barred rocks not two black rocks. When we purchased them from Tractor Supply the gal said black rocks, so sometimes I still say that. After we brought them home I researched and discovered that they are barred rocks.

    Hello from the Meloy peeps!

I've been lurking for awhile, researching for my new flock but finally joined today. We currently have seven peeps, all ranging from about two and half weeks to one and a half week old now. We have two Rhode Island Reds (Queenie, aka "Red", and Ruby), two Black Rocks (Midnight and currently...
