Maybe try putting a chick or two in with the little one so it will have buddies. You'd be surprised how quickly a pecking order is established. If he is reintroduced with other chicks when ready, he stands a better chance of not being picked on.
I'd suggest a little brown sugar in his water so...
Hello!
Believe it or not... I'm not set yet to incubate this year. Life is moving so fast. I won't hatch as many as I did last year. I'm trying to keep things in balance. We got a family milk cow this year and I am really juggling all the critters plus get my garden planted.
I am anxious to...
Hello all! Long time no talk! I just thought I would pop in and give everyone an update on Yolk after Ariel recommended some may like to know. I can't believe its been so long!
She is a very happy, well adjusted hen now and lays the most fabulous large eggs. She's not top of the flock or...
Glad I saw this Karen! I believe I have a hen that matches this description! She is a SG. The white tips on her feathers did not my show up until her second molt. I kept trying to figure out which hen .was producing offspring with a few white feathrs in the cockerels chest with sooty coloring...
Good to know I'm not alone... These hens are losing their minds. Lol! I'm upping the protein for the girls to help speed along the molting. Fingers crossed!
Any PNW Washingtonians noticing bizarre hens behavior right now? My hens aren't sure what they're suppose to be doing. Lay eggs, go broody, molt? I've checked them over for mites (ewh), their food is the same, but egg production just dropped! There are feathers from preening so I know some...
Looks like, price per chick... Is that correct? So, if you have a minimum of 25 chicks shipped equals 25 additional fees? Please tell me I miss read that section.
Looks like an additional handling fee per each addressed as shipped... ? Does that mean if there are 25 chicks being shipped there are 25 additional fees? I haven't read it entirely as I'm at work. I was hoping someone had already broken down the new charges... ???
Looks like they are trying to pass new regulations and prices on shipping poultry. Has anyone heard anything on this? I thought I would spread the word. I hope this doesn't violate any BYC rules sharing...

I hope I'm not breaking rules on BYC. I wanted to share an email I received on new regulations they are trying to pass on shipping poultry. Has anyone heard anything on...
Yep... All unpacked! I'll start on the coop when I get back from Texas. My son is graduating from Air Force boot camp. Yay!!! The chicks are big and rambunctious. I'll make sure to take before & after pictures. I've been driving to work 4 hours a day and just worn out.
I apologize... I think...
Oh my gosh Sally! This is ALWAYS my worst nightmare when candling. I’ve envisioned it at least three times every candling session. You know why it happened to you don’t you? You are the great teacher! From every tragedy comes great experience. You have taught so many… and maybe, just...
I use zip ties as well but haven't with a broody mama. Just a concern, is your broody very experienced? My concern is that she may peck at the color leg bands as some of the other chicks do and will. Ki4got, have you had banded chicks under a broody mama? I would hate for accidental injuries...
On feather sexing, its really suppose to be done on day one. From your pictures... I'd say 1-pullet 2-cockerel, 3-iffy...pullet? And 4-pullet. I have tried numerous times to guess their sex by the markings however; seems like its just backwards for my colored birds. By 4 weeks you should see...
