Any idea what breed this pullet is?

It did not start off very chipmonky...meaning not as clearly chipmunk like as an Easter Egger does. Just sort of oddly colored and patterned from the start and has gotten more and more interesting as she's grown up. She does look like she could be a Swedish Flower Hen and from what I've read...

Any idea what breed this pullet is?

She's beautiful...very interesting to look at. She was part of a Meyer Hatchery rainbow pack. She's about ten weeks old.

    Trapping Chicken Killers

I posted about two weeks ago about a similar thing happening with our chickens. We lost five (we thought seven, but two turned up in later counts) to what we thought was a weasle. They were all headless, but there was very little blood in the coop and their bodies were otherwise mostly...

    Trapping Chicken Killers

I could most certainly use some help as we are in the midst of a chicken apocolypse here. :( We've had our flock for three years and their coop is fort knox. My husband built it to withstand just about anything, it's a 6 foot by 12 foot solid 2x4 construction built on a raised platform anchored...

Is this a worm in my egg?

I really want to believe you both on this one, but when I look at pictures of chalaza, it (chalaza) looks more like a clump of white stuff than a defined "tube." I've tried googling "large chalaza" and "huge chalaza" and looking through images and I can't find a single example of chalaza that...

Is this a worm in my egg?

Arg! It won't take my image! Off to upload it somewhere so I can comeback and link it...

Is this a worm in my egg?

Making cheesecake this morning using yesterday's fresh eggs. I have a flock of seventeen who are generally in good health, though slightly ragged from such a cold winter. They free-range about half the day on our 22 acres and I've never noticed worms in any poo in the coop. I use the deep litter...

    Dislocated hip? Achilles? Help!

All my chicks were vaccinated for Marek's. They arrived as day old chicks from Meyer Hatchery. She's still eating, though I can't tell if she's drinking. She has easy access to food and water and seems to be laying peacefully every time I check on her. Going to get my husband to help me feel...

    Dislocated hip? Achilles? Help!

One of my twelve week Buff's has hurt her right leg at some point during the day. She was last out of the coop this morning and when I peeked in, she was laying on her side. She came out at some point and was free ranging today with the flock. At the end of the day, we found her standing on one...

EE Bully or just pecking order?

We have 18 chicks that arrived newly hatched on Monday. 3 Barred Rock, 3 Buff Orphingtons, 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte, 3 Red Laced Blue Wyandotte, 3 Black Austrlorps and 3 Easter Eggers that were last minute subs from Meyer when the a jersey Giants didn't hatch. For the most past everyone is...

Where do you keep your chicks?

We don't have cats or dogs, just three elementary school age kids, so ours live in a big brooder box in our dining room and will do so until they are around six weeks old and we can move them to the coop.

    Our first flock has arrived!

Of course I managed to order them for delivery on what turned out to be the coldest day of the year! It was six degrees this morning when the post office called at 7:30am to tell me they had JUST arrived and I could pick them up at 8am. Big kudos to both Meyer Hatchery for doing an amazing job...
