Hello all! I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of breeds of chickens that forage well, relatively quiet, deal with the desert heat well, and lay rather infrequently...that last part might seem odd, but I would prefer a breed that lays less instead of more. If anyone has suggestions that...

Hello everyone we are downsizing our backyard flock. I have already sold some of our pullets, and re-homed our Splash Ameraucana cockerel. (Met some wonderfully nice people along the way too! <3 Always great to make new chicken friends. ) One of my Orloffs turned out to be a cockerel as well. I...

The Ameraucana Thread: Where everything and anything about the breed can be discussed (APA, Non-Stan

He is beautiful! The picture doesn't really do Blimpy justice. If we could keep a rooster it would surely be him. We are going to miss him terribly, but we have a literal backyard flock. Now, our neighbors loved our old hens, and the new ones too. I just do not want to push our luck with a roo...

I have noticed they certainly like to speak their minds about whatever is going on in the yard. They are the ones I always have to chase out of the potted plants, and anything else they can get into. I am enjoying their little antics!

Thank you very much. He is such a goofy guy too! We love him, but live too close to our neighbors to keep a roo. We have a home already lined up for him ( which is why I wanted to know sooner rather than later if I was, in fact correct he was a roo ) where he will have plenty of ladies and room...

The Ameraucana Thread: Where everything and anything about the breed can be discussed (APA, Non-Stan

Hello! I am new to Ameraucanas/ Easter Eggers. These are my first of the breeds. I was told by the breeder they are in fact true Ameracaunas, but I have to be honest, I really don't care either way. I am just happy to have the colorful characters in my backyard flock. I hope it isn't a bother if...

If they want to sleep in the box, I don't particularly mind. I clean out the coop every day anyhow. I just put it up because I thought it was adorkable, a precious moment. My other hens did the same thing, but once they were larger moved to the roost. We will see. Most of the Blue Ameraucanas...

    Arizona Chickens

So, my young birds are spending their second night out in their new coop. I went out to lock them up tonight, and heard a bunch of shuffling. This is what I found. I don't think they have the hang of it yet. I tried to tell them it was a nesting box and not a sleeping box, but the Blue...

We just delivered him to his new mommy this afternoon. He will have a whole bunch of hens, who are at the moment a few weeks behind him, to take care of! I wished we could have kept him too. He was a very chill/ nice guy, but I know he is in a wonderful place at his new home! Her rooster died...

Thank you everyone for the confirmation. I really thought it was a cockerel. I know it is a huge long shot, but I am putting the offer up anywhere I can. If anyone is anywhere near Tucson AZ and would like him, you can have him for free. He is c1-c2 bloodlines, a nice little guy. I just cannot...

I know this is probably a long shot, but I thought I would post something up here too. I have a 5-6 week old French Black Copper Maran Cockerel (c1-c2 bloodline). I was wondering if anyone would want to take him. He is free. You can come pick him up, or we can always meet halfway somewhere...

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

Hello! I hope it isn't too much of a bother if I can ask for opinions. I picked up three French Black Copper Marans from a breeder a few weeks ago. They are between 5-6 weeks old now. The breeder was fairly certain they were all pullets, but not 100% sure. This is my first time buying straight...

I had the same issue with one of my hens. She would kick any and everything out of the box, and then just dig at the bottom of the box for 15 minutes before she laid an egg. So, I finally put down some grip beaded shelf liner in the bottom of the box. (cupboard liners). I put a few layers in (I...

    Arizona Chickens

After months of waiting we finally got our new chicks, about two weeks ago! They are becoming quite the little social butterflies. We got 12 straight run chicks. 3 Spangled Russian Orloffs, 3 French Black Copper Marans (c1-c2 bloodline), 6 Blue Ameraucanas. They are all adorkable chicks, but I...
