    Sick Chicken - Eye/Sinus Issues

Kathy - thanks. Do you think I should just save the $40 on the meds and instead take her to the avian vet? I'm gonna go get a pic for you.

    Sick Chicken - Eye/Sinus Issues

hmm, an avian vet is an hour away, I could do that. I was trying to save the drive. I think he flushed the sinus. The first time he got so much crap out I couldn't believe it. The 2nd time, not quite as much. Any idea how much of that to give her? I can message him again, he's so nice...

    Sick Chicken - Eye/Sinus Issues

He did flush it. Its been ongoing but I know I've used baytril, Tylan 50, Tetracycline injectable (LA200 I believe from TSC). Peter Brown just said to try his canker tabs so I've ordered them, meanwhile he said to use iodine on the lesions. He said it can get in the eyes. and, the vet...

    Sick Chicken - Eye/Sinus Issues

I'd think coryza but all other birds are fine. It's so strange.

    Sick Chicken - Eye/Sinus Issues

It looks like that, but it's in her eyes and upper mouth so I feel like it's sinus related. Maybe I can ask for some anti-parasite med. I've tried literally everything, everything at TSC, baytril and I can't even remember but nothing worked at all.

    Sick Chicken - Eye/Sinus Issues

She's been on every medicine known to me - she's been to the vet (farm, not avian) and he's cleaned and flushed her eyes. She's a silkie hen - no other chickens are ill. She gets sinus gunk, really hard nasty stuff that comes up from her sinus and roof of her mouth into her eyes. She's...

    Marek's questions

I would never risk it. I've got it here and I only buy vaccinated chickens. For me, they are pets and I've been able to find older birds who were vaccinated so they've had longer to build the immunity. So far, so good, but I would never buy a chicken who hasn't been vaccinated. IMO it's not...

    Gallimycin 100 Injectable - Dose?

All of my birds are vaccinated for Mareks because I've had it. I buy birds who are older so they have a better chance, so far, so good with that. I ordered the injectable because I thought it would work faster. She didn't look quite so bad tonight (meaning her eyes weren't totally covered...

    Gallimycin 100 Injectable - Dose?

Does anyone know the dose for this? I don't know what is going on with my chicken. She's been sick now for several months and I've tried everything. This is my last try. Have it on order. She eats, drinks and acts fine except she's had a bad respiratory issue going on and I can't get it...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

that's why I really don't want a chick here. It's awful regardless but I really like getting the grown out birds although I pay a lot. $100 for the 2 showgirls shipped from IL to OH. Pretty price for 2 chickens! That could get it (but I won't think like that!). Those ee's were very...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

I hope not...but it doesn't sound too promising :( I think being back here is bringing back up all of my anger towards Mareks.

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

The only one I had to put down was the poor accidental rooster. I've always given them time in the house and when I just don't think they will improve, I take them in. I can't do it myself, nor could my husband. I sure wish more breeders would vaccinate. you can say that again!

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

I lost all of my original 8 unvaccinated birds to it. I hate it more than I can say as I'm sure we all do. My chickens are my pets. I got 2 ee's grown out vaccinated and one got it (I think it was the visceral form). I had to have her put down and a roo who I got grown out and he should...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

my birds who had paralysis took a while. It's very sad and heartbreaking to watch. They would show signs of paralysis, then I'd bring them in the house and they never got better. I'd have them in for a couple weeks usually before I'd have them put to sleep. They would eat and act happy but...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

It's hard to say if it's mareks, sounds like it could be but not sure. If I were you, I'd wait on the chicks until you find out from the lab. That's just me though. If you did, I'd vaccinate right away, some people vaccinate twice. Keep them away from any other chickens you have for as long...

Not an Emergency...Marek's in the Flock

well, just know if you take them (I know I would vs cull them), you're taking mareks. Hard decision!
