Tail down, but no other symptoms

My hen is walking around with her tail down, but nothing else appears to be wrong. She's eating and drinking. She just laid an egg. Any ideas what might be up?

Shell less eggs and weak shelled eggs

First off, my hens have access to oyster shell. One of my hens has been laying shell less eggs, and when she lays a normal egg it is significantly weaker and the shell is not smooth. Today she laid one very weak shelled egg, so weak that I can see the yolk without candling. Attached to it...

Yeah it's ridiculous the cost of living in CA. I know Ventura well, I grew up in Thousand Oaks.

I just panicked and kicked a possum in the face.

I can't tell if this is a joke... do people really eat possum?

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

There would be a lot of ifs to making it work. It would work if it was warm enough outside that a draft wouldn't get to the babies out that window on the side. It would work if you make sure the babies couldn't get out the window. And it would work if you could wire it so you could get a heat...

BROODER thread! Post pics of your brooders!

I got delightfully carried away, but this is for three chicks. I have a dog stay at my house several times a week who is less than trustworthy around the chicks, so it was important that it be dog proof.

The consensus in the which breed is this forum is that she is an ee. And I did totally luck out with my black sex link!! In fact, i picked her solely on the basis of not being able to pick one if I chose to add to my flock later. (Though I think we're pretty maxed out at 6) Here's the link...

Quote: The three I added today I got at Collier's and I had gotten one from them previously. My other two are from Hacienda Hay and Feed. I got an easter egger (maybe two, no one there was really sure what it was) and a black sex link. He orders from Belt (just about everyone around here...

    An Easter Egger?

I just got a few chicks from my local feed store. The man helping me wasn't really sure what this little girl is, he guessed she was an easter egger. She did not look like anyone else in the brooder. I did also get an easter egger, so I added her in the picture for comparison. .

    space

Baby chicks need very little room, but they grow really quickly. By about 6 weeks, they need about 2 ft per bird. Or at least, that's what I get mine. I don't know if tapping on the glass will affect their brains, but I can't imagine it would be good for their hearing. Or their stress...

    Chickens using the dog door

My three free range pullets have learned how to use the dog door. They come inside to get treats in the kitchen, but it's driving me crazy. My house is so icky because of it!! I can't get rid of the dog door because my not very intelligent dog has accidents inside when it's blocked off. If...
