Is it a bad sign for an internal layer/ egg yolk peritonitis?

Just had to put one of my girls down this evening because of peritonitis. The vet drained 500ml of fluid from her. She lost an entire pound of weight from just that. She was eating and drinking but all the fluid build up was affecting her breathing. After they drained it they sent the analysis...

New to Silkies...are there signs that they are ready to lay an egg??

My black silkie hen didn't start laying until she was about nine months old. She's not great laying during the "regular" season but will crank out one every other day when all the other full size girls have stopped completely because of the shorter days. She's my winter layer and summer...

Would tetracycline hydrochloride a good antibiotic for this? It's all we have for antibiotics for chickens that I can put in her water.

    Injured Hen not getting better

She's actually in my bedroom and I try to keep it a little cooler so I can sleep better but it's been a bit warmer in there lately. She has pooped and it's watery but normal color. I've got a lot to work tomorrow getting stuff for her. Thank you for the information.

    Mites will not leave!

Do they go out in the yard? The mites might be there. If they do go out then maybe take 7 to that area too.

    Injured Hen not getting better

I checked her over for injuries when I brought her in and other than there being a couple of smooth scabs (which I checked to see if they were infected. They aren't.) she is just missing feathers. Her coloring has actually improved even though she's not eating or drinking on her own. She'll be...

    Injured Hen not getting better

Ok I work at a ranch and home supply store and checked some stuff today but it seems like all we have are electrolytes and wormers. I have to check the other two feed stores in town tomorrow morning if she's still going.

    Injured Hen not getting better

She has refused everything in favor of sleeping earlier this morning and then again tonight. I syringe fed and watered her because I know she didn't eat or drink anything while I was at work today. I was able to get some food into her and then she just sat down and went to sleep. She's just...

    Hello from Wyoming!

My name is Myra and my chickens are pretty much my babies. If I could sit in the coop with them in the winter time for at least an hour a day I'd be happy. However, my coop is not big enough for me to do that! During the summer I spend close to four hours a day with them while I do yard work or...

Chicken beeing plucked alive by others. Half the back, tail and base

I was told to put raw apple cider vinegar in their water and that would help them stop pecking out feathers. Also give them things to do. I bought another flock block for mine as well as throwing them salad scraps. If I give cat food to them it's the canned food mixed with their pellets and yogurt.

    Shelless Egg then Dead Chicken

You need to start supplementing your girls with oyster shell to provide calcium. I had one of my girls lay a soft shell egg after exhibiting signs of being egg bound. I freaked out and brought her into the house and sat her in some warm water and then just kept her warm overnight. This was all...

    Injured Hen not getting better

My barred rock hen Bebe got beat up on by the other girls when we had a really nasty cold snap. They ripped out a lot of feathers on her back and kept her from coming into the coop. I brought her in the house and have been giving her food and water (with apple cider vinegar in it), but she's not...
