Dear Lord,
I know Goergia has been in severe drout for a few years and I appreciate all the rain we have had recently. The trees look great, as does the lake and yard, but can we have just a couple no rain days please. All I really have left is the roof and run, I even dug the four corner post...
Slowly getting going on my pallet coop have floor and most walls together and walls mostly painted. Two halves of floor need to be attached, I have bamboo flooring for inside the coop. Coop will be elevated and 8' x 80" and will have a 20 x 20 x 6 wire run covered with netting. Pullets are in...
I will be building my large coop soon and will have a 25 x 25' run, I will be installing an electric fence to keep the dogs out. Will it hurt the chickens if I run the wire through the hardware cloth to electify it, or will they be like the dogs, hit it once or twice and then leave it alone?
What gauge hardware cloth is best for keeping dogs out, I have two lab mixes plus other dogs in the area. I had to line my grow out coop with upright pallets due to the hardware cloth I had not being much of a barrier. I plan on building my big coop in the next couple weeks and will electrify...
I will probably use intact pallets for an 8x8 coop. Will I need to frame it out or will the pallets act as their own frame. And for the Whovians we plan on making it look like the TARDIS.
I am about to build a new coop, with the help of a freind who is a builder, and was wondering about using OCB. Can I paint it and use it for the exterior to save on ply wood cost. We are going to build an 8x8 coop with a large run or two. I have seen a couple designs on this site using only OSB...
I will soon be building an 8x8 coop for when the chicks get grown, I built a smaller one for them to mature in. I plan to build the runs 8x20 and put one run on each side of the coop to alternate the use. I can not free range due to my dog's penchant for birds of all types, and the family of...

My Lakenvelder (think that is what it is) is the first to start roosting in the brooder. Still waiting on the two Barred Rocks and RIRs, RIR should be next as they are almost feathered out on the wings, BRs are feathering slower than the other chicks but one tries to hop up thier.
I currently have 5 pullet chicks and will add a roo in a month or so. I have a small coop for them while they are young but would like to build a bigger coop with room to add five more after I hatch some this summer/fall. What dimensions should I go for, for the coop. I plan on putting a 12 ft...
I would like to start giving my chicks treats and was wondering the best source of grit and how to be present it. I have sand from setting stone last year and read about tufts of grass. So just seeking more info on what o use and how to give it to them. Thanks
I picked up one more pullet chick to add to the four I got on Wednesday. I will post a pic after work but here is quick description. She is mostly black with white wing feathers and a yellowish white head. Any guesses as to what she may be.
I will use this for my four pullets and a roo (waiting to get the roo) I will build a larger coop when I begin to breed and use this for hens to hatch and care for little ones
She just got her chicks in at the feed store today, picked up a couple Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Reds going to get a RIR Rooster when they get old enough to sex at the store. She only orders pullets so little chance to get a rooster right now.
Hi all, very glad I found this site, this place is full of great info for a newbie. I am almost finished with my first coop/pen, then off to Hamilton Outdoor Supply to see if her hens are in. Going to get a couple Rhode Island Reds and a Barred Rock, and ask her to order me a RIR Rooster.
