Lovely coop - I'm sure your hens will appreciate all of the thoughtful amenities you gave them. Congratulations on both of the new places - both look fabulous!
I should post a video of my girls running at me when they see me - They stop doing whatever they are doing and run as fast as they can towards me. If I am outside they get on my feet, jump up on my lap or just follow me around...They love to just hang out with me or any other human really...
I took the expected life of the coop at 15 years and divided the cost to make it and divided it to get the yearly cost; took that figure and divided it by 12 months, them by 365 for days to get a daily cost for the coop.

Anyone who has chickens have their own entertainment network! They are funny to watch their antics...they are always doing something. I can't imagine how life is for battery hens - too sad to even think about actually....
I too feel bad for chickens raised in those conditions. Watching how chickens interact, forage and run around is only half the fun of owning them. I think we get the better end of the bargain because having those golden yolked eggs are simply delicious and packed with all kinds of healthy...

I am with you helping out other folks in need. I give eggs to my family members and 2 elderly ladies that really appreciate getting them. The one lady tells me everytime I drop them off how much they remind her of her childhood and how good they are. It's nice that they appreciate the eggs...
That would be great for people that sell their eggs to know and add to their cartons. It's like everything else, value has to be perceived and a lot of people don't know how lucky they are to be able to buy eggs from a small farm/local source from chickens that get to be real chickens and do...
No one can compete with big ag; they can cram 100,000 girls in a building, give them a couple of feet of floor space, put the feeders inside with waterers, cut a hole in the building that goes out to a concrete slab and call those eggs for sale - cage free - Those eggs come from unhappy...
