To steal or not to steal?

I have to sebbie goose that has been laying in her first season. I have the first 5 or so in the incubator and a couple have been fertile. She has built a nest in one of the pen and laid a few eggs in there over the past week or so. The problem (maybe) is that she will only sit on them at night...

    What breed are these?

I have never had quail before and was given some hatching eggs. I was only told that some of the eggs that were marked came from pied birds. I don't know if you can tell the breed at a young age. A few of the birds are lighter in color and smaller. Thanks for any help.

    Eggs firm inside?

A couple of people I have given some eggs to lately said they have cracked a couple of the eggs open and they are like hard boiled inside?? I have not come across any like this myself. Is it possible they could have froze changing the texture? I look all eggs over closely and I'm sure there were...

    leg help

I have a 4 month old peafowl that seems to have a hurt leg. I don't believe it is broken because she can walk on it but is unstable when doing so. The leg seems to be setting inward towards her body. She was fine yesterday and I have had her from hatch. Could it be a spain? Does it need a...

    Sebbie Flying

We have a pair a sebbies that like to follow us around when we are out in the yard, which seems pretty common among geese. The other day I was working around the yard moving kind of quickly and apparently my smooth goose didn't want to be left behind. She began running fast and then flew about...

    Pen Ground Cover?

Does anyone put straw or any other material on the ground in their peafowl pens? If I don't put anything down the ground gets very muddy when we get a lot of rain. I have tried putting straw down which they seem to like but when it gets wet it draws earthworms which I'm not sure is good...

    My new peachick pen

I went searching for ideas for a peachick brooder/pen and couldn't find much, so I though I would share what I just finshed. Few things left to do, but it's 5' h x 5' l x 3' w. It has a drawer with a vinyl floor for cleaning out, since it's in my workshop. Should work for a few peas until they...

    Are these IB's??

I had three out of five eggs that I set under a broody hen hatch over the weekend! One of the chicks has white on the flight feathers. Does that make him/her pied or split to white? Thanks

    Silkie with crossed toes

I have a young silkie, about 3 months old. One of her toes is growing across the one next to it and the nail is cutting into her foot. I have cut back the nail so it's not rubbing now, but of course it will grow back. Is there anything I can do to change the growth? I really don't want to cull...

What is a fair price to pay for IB peahens (1 - 4 years old)? What about white peahens? The few I have found are asking $75 - $100 for IBs. Thanks

    Stray Peacock!!

A friend of mine called me yesterday and said there was a peacock in her backyard and asked if I wanted it. They do not want the bird around because of roommates that don't care for him and his mess. After work I went over to check it out and he was gone but this morning we was back and ate some...

Why not medicated feed for waterfowl?

I have seen several post that say not to feed waterfowl medicated feed but I could not find the reason. What is in the medicated feed that is not good for waterfowl? Is this the case for starter, grower, and layer feeds?

Rooster with Pasty Butt and Maggots!

I have a BR roo that is about 6 months old. When he was a chick he had pasty butt and we would clean him up every day and it seemed to clear up fine. As he grew his tail feathers did not come grow normally but I assumed it was because we kept them cut back when he was young. Over the past couple...
