Coop Floor- Sand or Deep Litter?

Regardless of what you have on the floor I would install poop boards. Mine have a little lip on the edge and then I covered the board with Sweet PDZ. I just sift through it every morning and put the droppings in the compost pile. Very quick and easy. Then whatever you have on the floor will stay...

    American serama thread!

My seramas are 3 weeks old and 1 of them has curly tail feathers and the wings fljp up slightly like eyelashes. Do you think it could be a frizzle? I've had other frizzles and they generally had the curve all over not just tail and wings. Any suggestions what's going on?? Sorry the pic is so bad...

Help! How do I integrate my bantam flock with my big girls?

Update-I ended up building a new coop just for my banties. The main reason for this is because my 4 little girls free ranged in my backyard all day everyday and the big girls started staying in the run because they were causing too much damage in my yard. They transitioned to the new coop pretty...

Its been 19 hours since I heard chirping...what do I do now???

Wow, that was so informative! Thank you for sharing. 5 of the 6 hatched. The 6th was upside down in the shell. Everything else looked normal. When I posted that on BYC I googled my questions and didnt find very much helpful information. I will definately be going back to that link in the future...

5 of my 6 hatched...some with help. The poor little one that didn't make it was upside down in the shell. Everything looked completely normal and good otherwise. I'm guessing since the head was on the wrong end it couldnt get any air. So sad. It happened early morning otherwise I would've helped...

    103 degrees today....overheated hens

I bought a cheap mister at Home Depot and that works here in Kansas. Look up how to make a redneck air conditioner with a styrofoam minnow bucket, a 5 gallon plastic bucket, a small fan, pieces of pvc pipe and frozen milk jugs. I already run fans and put frozen bottles out. This looked so cool!

    Need hatching help!

Help! I have a banty hen sitting on 6 serama eggs. Yesterday was day 19 and around 2 pm I could hear one of them chirping then a few others started after that. I peeked before bed last night and one had finally pipped the shell. I was just sure that overight something else would happen but when...

Help! How do I integrate my bantam flock with my big girls?

Thanks for the reply! Do you think I'll need to put some lower roosts for them in the coop? Maybe in a different area? And do you think they'll share the nest boxes ok? I have seen people put banty sized boxes near the floor just for them. I just worry about them getting bullied, they are pretty...

Help! How do I integrate my bantam flock with my big girls?

I have 2 existing flocks of chickens. I have 4 bantam hens, approximately 5 months old, that have their own small coop and run. I would like to integrate them in to the big coop with my other 16 large fowl hens. They are all a year old or less. All of the chickens have free ranged together in my...

    Treating roundworms with ivermectin

I think I've seen Safeguard paste at Orschelns or TSC. I'll try to get some of that. Kathy, can you give me the dosage for that? Do you know how often you can treat with this? Since they can live in the ground 2 yrs I will probably need to treat again. :/ Thanks Dreyadin for that tip. Both of...

    Treating roundworms with ivermectin

I treated my whole flock last summer with wazine followed by ivermectin after finding roundworms in their poop. I found some more yesterday and am wondering if I should treat again. Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought if you were seeing them in the poop then the bird had them pretty bad. Is...

Does the color of a hen's eggs change?

Hi! These are my first chickens and they are all about 7 months old. I have 1 easter egger and I've noticed her eggs vary in color from day to day. Some are more green, some are almost olive colored and some are downright blue. I was under the impression that a chickens egg will be a certain...
