    neurological problem? wry neck?

The local TSC gave me "Bubbles" since he wasn't doing well and want able to be with the general population. He falls down often, walks sideways and when held he holds his head to the side! I've never had a chick/duckling do this but have heard of wry neck so I started him on "save a chick"...

Needing a Schedule for Keeping the Flock Happy and Healthy (Organically - Mostly)

So I have a mixed flock of 24 birds ranging from 22 weeks - 4 years, not including the chickys which are penned up and separate. I am a paranoid freak and always think something is wrong with someone. I am looking for a preventative schedule to keep my birds happy and healthy. The chickens...

    What do I have here?!

My 'chicks' are 20+ weeks old and it is a countdown to egg production! The photos are from several weeks ago, so around 16 weeks. I am guessing this is a bantam ameraucana cockerel but I'm hoping I'm wrong (I want a hen)! Her name is Love. Next, is "Boots". I am guessing Boots is a...

    Do chickens know their breed?

What a great question and post! I've enjoyed reading the replies. I have a mixed flock, those that have matching brothers/sisters seem to stick together, as a general rule of thumb. I do have one Americana and one Black Giant (both are not part of a matching pair) and they are best friends...

    Bantam, Quail, Pheasant or Munchkin??

Some of my chicks turned 15 weeks old this week! yay! So....I have one chick named "Tiny" - You can see Tiny next to the other 15 week old chicks in this photo. You can probably guess why his name is Tiny. I also have some 15 week old bantams, not photographed. (Why won't chicks pose...

Hen mounting other hen, or roo?

I feel silly even asking but I have what I thought were 10 laying hens. No one has ever " cockle doodle dooed"/crowed. The one now in question is a newer chicken to me. I purchased from a local breeder approximately 2 months ago making the hen in question approximately 6-7 months old. The...
