We really liked the "Playhouse" coop that many members posted on this website, so I went ahead and built one for our chickens. I didn't buy the plan, but I got ideas from pictures of the "Playhouse" coop on this site and drew my own plan... So, thanks to everyone who posted pictures of their...
Hi Monarc23, I'm in the process of working on my quail hutch and would really appreciate it if you could help me figure out what's the best hardware cloth to use for the bottom. I bought some 1/4" hardware cloth, but due to my limited experience with quails, I can't quite tell if that's too...

Not at all, go right ahead! The reason I share pics here is to help others gather ideas as well.
Oh ya, I know exactly what you're talking about. It's exciting isn't it?
My quails are growing rapidly, so I'm going to start building the hutch soon despite my busy schedule. I finally had time to sit down and do some planning last night, as I find that it saves me a lot of money when it comes to going out there and purchasing the materials. Here's the plan so far...

Don't forget to share photos with the rest of us once you get started, I'm sure many on here like myself will find it very useful. I'm still in the process of drawing mine out on SketchUp, so I'm trying to gather as many ideas as possible. I'm quite new with this quail raising craze...
You can leave him in there for up to two days and he'll be fine. When I hatched my Texas A&M, it was at least 8 hours between the first hatch and the second hatch. Whatever you do, don't open the bator! You will jeopardize the lives of the other chicks if you open the bator too early. From my...

Thank you for your reply. If you don't mind me asking, what is the size of the plastic bin lids you found at IKEA? I previously thought of using tuflex roofing material as "trays," but if the plastic bin lids you're talking about are big and long enough, I bet they'll be the better...
Thanks for sharing the pics, Andrea! That's a really pretty hutch... I'm planning mine out at the moment and I would really appreciate it if you could tell me what you use for the poop tray. Thanks in advance.
I have 10 chickens, but only 1 is old enough to lay (just got my first egg yesterday). My question is whether or not I should put the nest boxes into my coop? The other pullets are 8 and 13 weeks, so they probably have a while until they start laying... What should I do? Also, should I switch...
Thanks! It IS very exciting, especially since it's sort of out of the blue... I really wasn't expecting any eggs at all, which makes it that much more exciting.
FlewTheCoop: The ones in the back are EEs, they're 13 weeks old. The one in front (that I assume laid the egg), I think is a mixed...
Wow! This is exciting! I was watering my plants this afternoon and heard a *thud* in the coop, so I ran over and found my first ever egg! She must have laid it earlier this morning, since she wasn't the chicken in the coop at the time. The only reason I sort of know who laid it is because only...
