I have always had layers so starting up with broilers is very new to me.
I've bought starter feed which is 18.5% protein. They get that and nothing else. I've read that many people feed them 20 or so percent protein but do you give them scratch? Any wheat or so?
I am concerned about the...
Hello
I have 3 weeks old chicks I was thinking of moving from their "conventional" brooder to a "cold" brooder, also called hay box brooder.
A very simple version of it is found here: http://forum.backyardpoultry.com/viewtopic.php?t=7955683
Do you suppose it would be okay to move them...
Oh but the "layer feed" I use has 25% protein in it. One is supposed to mix 50% wheat with it.
Yes, it is mostly because of the calcium. I know it would damage their organs, but wouldn't that happen in the long run rather than after 8-12 weeks? I think I have read, that someone always fed his...
So I am thinking of buying a batch of broiler chicks, the thing is that I have a lot of layer feed, do you suppose my chicks will be okay eating that? I mean, they will get acquainted with Mr. Axe after 3 months!
Thought so! But do you suppose a 60 W reflector bulb will be enough if I move them to the coop after 4-5 weeks? The temperatures will be about 40 F during the nights. Maybe a little too chilly?
I'm looking forward to getting 20-30 chicks but I dont own a heat lamp. Last time i had chicks they were 8 fluffy balls who thrived just fine under a 30 W incandescent light.
I am going to keep them inside where the temp. is 70 degrees the first three weeks, do you suppose 30 W will be enough...
My only 8 months old isa warren is very sick all of a sudden! They have been laying eggs for the last four months, albeit with a slight drop in production for the last week, but the last two days they all have laid eggs. Today, Saturday, I saw a hen stand alone with her eyes closed, her head...
Umm, yes, but it's in Denmark. I don't think I have written product description in english, so you might want to use translate.google.com website is honseland.dk (chicken country, fancy name indeed!)
Hello guys,
I am running an online shop for chicken keepers, but I really just have 3 products to sell as I only sell small sized stuff. I have no room to store feed and so and selling feeders is to expensive because the shipping cost is to high and mostly sell to new keepers.
What I have...
Thank God I'm so glad hear that! But are they as docile as the Isa browns? Easy to make them love you? :P
BTW, I suppose they are called Dekalb White, whose "manual" is found on this site: http://www.isapoultry.com/en/products/
My, have I ever seen light hens, 1.7 kg at egg laying age!
I am about to buy some of those, but am really concerned wether they are flighty or not.
I had Isa Warrens, and they were not flighty. But they wasn't happy with the area they had, so a couple of them did jump over the fence but later on quit doing that.
So, are those amberlinks worse at...
I have today started giving them ground pepper as it contains high quantities of both vitamins (A & K). I don't know wether they have been on any medication, they have been used for egg production in the country way from the city. The guy had over 200 hens but they were free ranging.
I got some Isa browns a month ago, and last couple of weeks I have seen a lot of blood spots, maybe 5-8 in nearly all eggs, at least 3 out of 4!
The spots are in the white and one or two on the yolk. How can I prevent this from happening, as it is not really appetizing.
Hiya guys! I have 5-6 w old australorps (beauties, aye!), and they have and are still having starter feed as pellets. I want to mix my own grower feed, because it is so easy to do so if you use soy and it's cheaper).
Anyhow, I have heard that the chickens may sort out the best grains and leave...
So wheat, corn and all that stuff.. When is it used? Only for "adults"? I have had a look at an egg layer feed which should be given as 1:1 with wheat.
By the way, when people say they have 6-9 weeks roosters for fattening to butcher, how do they/you fatten them? Some special hyper-space...
I've had a look at nutritional values of wheat and found that wheat contains something about 14% proteins. Would you say wheat is enough to feed besides what leaves the kitchen scraps? Maybe only when the chickens are old enough?
But how about the nights? Where I live live day temperature is 75 and night is 55. Is it okay? Now they live in their brooder and it is always 75, and the are just fine. By the way my chickens are three weeks old too.
