Should I put wire in the bottom of my coop? sand, dirt? help!

Quote: No I wouldn't use Kitty Litter, its course and will probably clump up bad when it gets wet. You can use sand and mix in Sweet PDZ to absorb oder and help dry the poop. Its totally safe to use it with chickens. After a few days you can just sift it out with a pool screen or something...

Please help! Im NOT likeing this set up. ALL suggestion welcome

Quote: Try landscape timbers or 1"x4"x10' treated pine boards screwed together to make a "sandbox". Should help with the runoff washing the sand away.

A coop built with the floor made of hardware cloth? Dh wants to do it like that......

Quote: Make sure to line hardware cloth around the lower portion of the chainlink fence (Ground to 24" high is sufficent) to keep the chickens from stiking their heads though the fence and also to prevent preditors from grabbing them through the fence.

    INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Hi there fellow Hoosiers, ChickenIndy again. Thought I would post an update on our Greenwood Zoning/Oridence struggle. We built a Chicken Tractor last weekend and transported it and our flock of 4 Hens to my parents house on Indy's South Side where chickens are allowed. They have adjusted to...

Greenwood Indiana, lets make a change!

Thank you for your story. Isn't odd how some laws come to be. If someone wants to own a few pet birds who is it bothering. Well we got our chicken tractor built up in two day and moved over to my parents on the south side of Indy today. I think they are enjoying the fresh grass and bugs. We had...

Coop door -do you need one if it's enclosed in a run?

Actually it said 8-12 Bantam or 4-6 average size chickens... still more that I would try. I would drill some 1" vents at the top and cover with screen wire to allow some ventilation as you mentioned. A simple door with a latch wouldn't be a bad idea for the winter time. Sent from my SPH-L710...

    Little poop coop, tractor

I built this coop so I could relocate my chickens to my parents house. They have some foxes that hang around every year. Would anyone recomend putting welded wire on the bottom of the tractor or how about an apron? I'd like to keep the tractor mobile so wire on the bottom may be best. Anyone...

Here is a short list of materals in case anyone wants to build something similar. We recovered some cedar out of a construction dumpster (long boards for handles and most of the trim). So that reduced the cost some. Qty 3: 2x4x8 treated: used for base Qty 3: 2x4x8 studs, ripped in half: used...

    Little poop coop, tractor

That's what I call it. A quick weekend project, about 10 hours to build and $100. Its based off the Egg Factory on Backyardchickens coops. We used PVC corrugated roofing to keep it light and ease of building. Panels are removeable on one side. We need to put the wheels on and give it a paint...

    12 week BR, Rooster?

We found him a new home yesterday. There is a farm down the road that has Emu, turkey, and chickens. We asked if they could take him and he said he already had a Rooster but his daughter would take him. Sad to see him go but at least we won't get in trouble. Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2

I completely agree. It sounds like the code official needs educated too. We got our chicks from a hatchery, named them all, got the coop, and then find that out we had to get rid of them. Katie, Josh, and anyone else who might be reading this... Please like our Greenwood Chicken Page on...

Good afternoon! Thank you for your reply. The lady we got our coop from is actually in Mooresville. Sadly, the city made her get rid of her chickens too (which is how we ended up with it). They did a great job building it, must've weighed 500lbs. Its going to stay in my back yard weather it has...
