No feathered legs, they're clean-legged. I had thought about oegb as well, but they have huge single combs, and this guy's is very close to his head, I'm guessing a rose comb. I'll see if I can get a close up of it tonight. I'm stumped though! They look very similar to the d'anver hen in...
These guys have me stumped. I got an order from www.performancepoultry.com, and he threw in (what looks like a pair) of bantams. Here are some pics:
They're both the same colour, an off-white with a bit of buff around the chest. They have slate colour legs, and what looks like a rose or...
I just bought 14 scovie eggs, and I'm wondering if anyone has any hatching tips. I've hatched out two sets of chickies, but no ducks yet. I have a genesis 1588, it's been sitting at about 99.7 and about 60% humidity. Someone suggested misting them once a day as well. I have them in a turner...
You can do a search for 'alberta chickens etc' and take a look at the list of breeders there. I've found a lot of neat stuff! My bator will be busy all spring!
So yesterday I was planning on taking out the turner, but I worked all day and then forgot. But I thought, no big deal, I'll take it out Tuesday, they're not due until Thursday night. But my mom called me today, and they started hatching. Three had already hatched and more had pipped. So...
A friend of mine is getting a few this spring, and she's having trouble finding real pictures of any. Does anyone have pictures they can post?
Thanks!!
Allison
Hey, I'm in Thunder Bay. I have an inulated coop, and they do just fine. I put a water heater in to make it easier on me, but last winter I just changed their water twice a day. Other than that, it's not heated. I tried to pick hardier breeds--I have americaunas, harco, red star, and cuckoo...
Yah! Nineteen little chickies! I have to check them and see if more are coming, but we're doing pretty good so far. Only about four layers haven't hatched. So should I play with the temp, or leave it? I'll double check the numbers, but I believe we had about a 75% hatch rate. Also, one of...
I put them in Saturday evening, so they should hatch Saturday evening, shouldn't they?
I'm sure another test hatch will be necessary though! I'll get a better thermometer for the next one.
But, here are some pix:
This is the first little chicky that hatched, likely a red star/americauna...
I had the thermometer inside that came with the bator. It read 100.5. The instructions said the digital thermometer that regulated the temps was more accurate, so I didn't worry about the other too much.
I'll leave the rest of the chickies in the bator then. Oops! I hope the rest are okay ...
