    Best Egglayers

Quote: Hello Liz, my birds are almost 1 year old, we got them last april. We did get a few double yolkers at first but havent seen them in a while. Ive read here that the doubles are caused by a glitch in the egglaying system. the same glitch also causes soft shells. we did have those also but...

    Best Egglayers

Quote: I have 3 regular customers and we also eat quite a few of them. I had been averaging 6 eggs a day and about 3 weeks ago they started to slow down. There was a problem with a frozen waterer and my son locked them out of their coop for a day and a half ( nice strong covered run so they...

    Heated metal fount base

I would like to blame it on the cold, but it is obvious to me now that it was not being used correctly. Just to let everyone know , we dried out the base completely and put a new fount on it the right way. its been 2 days and it is working fine

    Heated metal fount base

The funny part is that its been over 2 months full of water without any problems, with the wires and element fully submersed in water! The power went out the other day for about 10 hours and it froze solid. I guess the ice must have damage the wiring and caused the short. just wondering how long...

    Heated metal fount base

I have a galvanized , heated fount base that has been tripping my GFCI. I'm not sure if its being used the right way. We have been using it as a bowl, and filling it with water. I opened the wiring box and it seemed that all the wires were covered well with heat shrink. It has worked well for...

Please calm me down, my northern friends

I think sometimes people get a little paranoid about the cold. Think about all the wild turkeys outside, they would love a nice draft free space , pine shavings, food and water at their disposal. Just yesterday I saw a bunch of geese and ducks sleeping out in the open on a frozen pond. They...

Ugh! 1 Egg a day-Daylight to blame??? Help!

I have 7 hens ( 3 RIR, 4 BR) that average 5 eggs a day. There is a light in the coop that is on a timer. It turns on at 3:30 am and shuts off at 7 am, this gives them daylight of around 14 hours and I have not seen any noticable drop in the eggs produced. Maybe something like this would help...
