I have 13 hens and 1 rooster....All my hens are brown egg layers except one....She's an easter egger and the rooster is as well....All of the hens are laying fine....The Easter Egger stopped laying a month and a half ago but seems fine otherwise....I have camera's on them so I know nobody is...
Yes this is a rooster...The comb and waddles raise an eyebrow but his feeble attempts at trying to crow are a dead give away....Just wondering what his breed is so I know what he's going to look like when he's older...I'm going to keep him and try out that "no crow collar"
I have 7 hens that just turned a year old back in March.....Up until about 2 weeks ago they were laying like clockwork...I was getting between 4 and 7 eggs per day.....Now i'm lucky to get 3 a day and some day's just 1.....I have 1 leghorn that lay's white eggs and she hasn't laid in about 4...
My chickens have been doing well in the cold conditions we've been having....But Tomorrow night and Friday it's going to be around 0 degrees with wind chills around -13 to -20....Should I put my heat lamps out to help them with the extreme cold?
Ok now I know this is going to get a couple laughs and some jabbing of the elbow in the ribs....I can take a good joke....But my question is....I have conceded that one of my hen's isn't a hen but a rooster....I feed my hens layer mash....Right now the rooster is with 5 other hens that are 11...
This is my first year with chickens and thus will be my first winter....I know with the shorter days it will effect they laying....Will the eggs tend to get smaller??...Just wondering so I know if I should look for that....I have 3 Golden Comets and 3 RIR's that are laying
This chick used to be hyper aggressive...Not anymore...I'm guessing one of the other chicks got tired of it...I put some Bacitracin on.....This Chick wasn't aggressive at all tonight
So my 8 week old chicks just finished their bad of starter/grower....I have a half a bag of grower/finisher....I know the bag says they are supposed to be on the starter/grower for 10 weeks....Does 2 weeks really matter?
So I have 6 hens that I bought in the spring and they are laying now....I have 6 chicks that are 5 weeks old....Everyday I take the chicks outside and leave them run around in a fenced in area that keeps them close to my coop but segregated from the older hens....The hens really don't show much...
I have 6 pullets in a large coop and large run....I've noticed an odor that can get a little strong at times...I clean my coop every other day and once a week it gets a complete wash down with dawn dish soap and water.....I was wondering if there is anything else I can do or if i'm doing...
