    Homemade waterer help

Question. Why must the water bucket be upside down? Would it be easier to drill holes near the bottom of the bucket, for an easy refill? I think I must have missed that day in class, sorry if already covered.

    Show me your poop boards!

I place a shower curtain folded long way, in half under my roosts on top of the brooder. That way I can drag it out weekly to wash off and replace when its dry.

Winter Treats and Boredom Busters! (*Pictures*)

I also put Broccoli in a cage that I hang, so they have to jump to peck. It's usually gone in 2 days, for 6 chickens. I use the large winter bird suit cage. It is about the size of a BCrocker cookbook.

The Case of the Disappearing Chickens:Mystery Solved.

What a shame! Such a beautiful dog. Not sure this would work, but , have you seen the Cesar Milan " Dog Whisperer" video clip about training dogs to avoid chickens? It worked for our grown Border Collie (who is very herd/hunt focused), Italian Greyhound, and fox terrier. Those are a tough bunch...

Comment by 'jsimplytx125' in article 'Feathereds Brooder In Coop'

Great idea!I have 12 nest boxes and, you guessed, hens use 3! I am converting the entire top tier to brooding box which makes sense with heat in Texas, I should not have any worries about it ever being to cold for chicks, up there. I'll let you know how it goes. thanks again.

Removed slated tin from above brooder and placed black screen on top and sides of brooder. All feed is kept in 50 gallon plastic feed barrels that have screw...

    Soaking wet chickens!

I would shut them in the coop for the day, so they will be out of wind, rain. remember the food and water. They should be fine.

how do you teach them to go up the ladder?

That is an awesome coop. have instructions of build? On ramp solution, you might sit a shallow box next to ramp for a while until they get it through their chicken heads to use ramp to get inside.

How do YOU store your chicken feed???

WE store feed in sacks; 2 50lb bags to a 50 gallon blue HEAVY plastic barrels that have heavy screw on Lids. I would say the gauge of plastic is at least 1/2 inch. I would hate to get clocked with one.
