Wow took me way too long to get back to y'all.
Injured chicken has been reintroduced to the flock and is thriving. Also introduced 2 banties to the flock and everyone seems to be doing relatively well. Happy chickens, lots of eggs. So glad chicky hung in there
Working on drawing up a potential chicken coop design. Can anyone give me some input on anything I'm missing, whether this is feasible, etc? Also need to figure out how to get chickens from the coop into our run which is a 6' x 10' chainlink dog run.
A few weeks ago one of my chickens developed a sore from overmating that the rest of the flock pecked so badly she had a deep gouge and I wasn't sure she was going to make it.
I seperated her and cleaned her wound and bandaged it and she healed well. I have been trying to reintroduce her to the...
One of my chickens has a similar issue... not nearly that bad, but her backside is very thin on feathers and I'm worried cause we are approaching winter. Think she'll be okay? She's an orpington.
So my chicken raising has not gone unnoticed in my neighborhood it would seem, a neighbor a street over from me appears to have noticed and jumped on the bandwagon as they now have rooster crowing coming from that area as well
Update - little fluff and mama are still with the rest of the flock. they kinda do their own thing compared to the rest, but there doesn't seem to be any issues. Both are healthy and doing alright it would seem :) My other egg didn't hatch, not sure why, but it's possible it wasn't fertilized.
So I've been reading and so far I think I may need to provide a "nest" option at the bottom of the coop. Thinking a low edge cardboard box lid or something for now. I'm hoping the couple inches to get into the actual coop won't be a big deal for little fuzzy ones (there is a ramp, but it's not...
I'm going to second the complaint about the rain and ask for any suggestions.
My chickens are in a dog run all day and then get some out time with supervision in the yard sometimes. The run itself is muck central right now and not very pleasant smelling either. It's not the poo that's the real...
I ended up using what they sent and it has been working well for some time now. Knock on wood we haven't had any intrusions into the run.
Of course it's a second line of defense attached to our dog run chain link fence so that helps too.
So my chicken is a mama as of today. She hatched one chickie and still has one egg. Wondering if i have to move the chick or if i can leave them in the coop with mama?
I dont have a brooder set up yet. Below is my coop and i have a flock of 4 hens and 1 rooster.
I live in Kansas, but close to the Missouri border. I thought I would post this here in case someone was close by in Missouri.
I am looking for someone willing to care for my chickens in my area for future vacations. Is anyone in the overland park, KS area?
All I would expect is food, water...
Looking for a chicken sitter in my area. Is there anyone in the kansas city metro (I'm in Merriam) who might be willing to watch my chickens if I left town?
Need someone to feed, water, let out in am, lock up in pm and take any eggs.

All I would expect is food, water, let them out in am, lock them up in pm, and gather eggs (that you could keep!)
